The convincing win in SC, including perhaps overperforming in areas and demographics that weren't necessarily supposed to be his strengths, seems to have coalesced some support behind him.

It'll be interesting to see how this reflects in the polls, both ST and nationally. The latter doesn't matter much outside of momentum perception, but if he does better than expected on ST, this is a new race. (Not that the "old" race was over, by any stretch.)

Sun Mar 1, 2020, 11:00 AM
Mar 2020

Phrases were thought out beforehand, but his appeal and demeanor was of someone who can get things done. And I think that's important because voters are realizing that Bernie and Liz have policies they like but that stand little chance of passing any Congress, even a very Democratic one. After 3 years of Stable Genius, practicality is very much on voters' minds.

Bernie is kind of painted into a corner. Great ideas, coherent message, popular even, but also edgy with the complaining anger of an insurgent campaign against the party he's running with. Now that the novelty has worn off, the discontent begins to reflect on Bernie himself.

So I see little upside for Bernie. Super Tuesday may be Bernie's to lose, but it's not moving in his direction at the moment.

I was pretty damn motivated to vote against Trump in the 2018 midterms -- in addition to myself, I got two others to vote that normally do not and encouraged one other to register and vote for the first time -- and I was VERY motivated to vote for Biden in the primary yesterday, including going out of my way to include someone that doesn't normally vote in primaries in the process and taking them to vote yesterday.

And, given the fact that Biden pulled off the most resounding win yesterday that we've seen so far during this nomination process and has had more people vote for him than anyone else has thus far, I would say people are pretty motivated to vote for him.

So knowledge and experience DO and DID count. People do look for that. And vote accordingly. Voting for the ‘exciting’ or ‘different’ candidate is what helped Trump. That and more than a little help from Russian interference in the election.

I didn't say experience didn't count, but Hillary was also younger and sharper.

Older people are looking for that... younger people are sick if the older people.

No, voting for exciting and different DIDN'T help Trump and that's a weak assessment. Them not voting in the general, plus Russia, plus the fact that it was the first election after voting rights were gutted contributed to the current situation.

Mon Mar 2, 2020, 01:20 AM

Seriously?

IMO you need to think in broader strokes than that, to engage many, many more moderate voters and some left-leaning republicans so that we can win this election. Being a purist may work at another time, but this election is far too important to put on blinders with regard to very idealistic principles. I think most of us here would agree with some of Bernie’s platform, but the larger populous isn’t going to be able to look past his own record and self-described ‘Democratic Socialist’ label.

I would also say that older voters have a far greater record of actually turning out to vote, no matter the candidate, in any election. Younger voters have a sporadic turnout typically.

If you are saying that you are only going to vote for an ‘exciting’ candidate, you are going to be sadly disappointed in the long run. I take it that you are a young voter? That is great and I applaud your involvement and wanting to rally behind a candidate that you believe in. Not every good candidate has an exciting demeanor or is a contemporary. Those who are older and have been at the game a long time have hopefully developed strong relationships where it counts: either across the aisle or across nations. We desperately need someone who has those accomplishments right now.

I would hope that if Biden does manage to win the nomination, you would be able to vote for him. I’m guessing from your implication about an ‘exciting’ nominee that you are for Bernie? If so, how do you reconcile his age with your comment about younger people being sick of older people?

1. Bernie's refusal to gracefully concede so that the party would have an opportunity to heal and come together. He knew exactly how his refusal would affect his followers and her electability.

2. Bernie or busters and their frequent disruptions at HER convention shown on TV and bernie's ever present scowl every time the camera caught his attention.

4. Russia's support of Bernie and Jill Stein to thwart Hillary's chances of winning. Those same jill supporting senior advisers are working for him today.
