Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumProud of the media for finally seeing that a 6-person field is different than a 2-person field!
For the first three states, all the pundits had to say is that the majority of voters "rejected" the candidate who got the most votes. But suddenly, for some unknowable reason, they stopped, even though once again no candidate got a majority.
I've even seen some pundits actually explain that in a crowded field, the winning candidate is going to obviously end up with less votes than they would if there were only two candidates. Imagine that!
What could possibly have changed? Did someone organize a remedial math class for the punditry?
Whatever it was, I'm very proud of them. And hopefully they'll keep this valuable knowledge for more than three days. But we'll see!

(5,376 posts)um, did JOE BIDEN get less that 50% of the votes in South Carolina perhaps?
From the sound of those goal posts moving, I bet that is why.

Biden won by more than 150,000 votes yesterday. I'm sure that on this bright, sunny Sunday morning that's not important anymore.

(5,376 posts)That was true in SC, for sure.
There must be at least 2 more states like that, maybe 3.
But, for states with an electorate more representative of the rest of the nation, Joe won't do anywhere near as well.
But time will Tell.
and THAT time is THIS Tuesday!

Into each life some rain must fall.
Super Tuesday will be the biggest and best test for all the candidates since it spans such a diverse swath of the electorate.
There won't be much room for candidates, or their supporters, to spin poor results after this Tuesday.
And that includes second tier candidates like Buttigieg and Warren.

(5,376 posts)It will be the first time we will have a serious swath of the electorate voting.
It's only 2 days away.
Polls, opinions, projections aside... on Super Tuesday we will get the first substantial actual voting results to discuss.
Good luck to you and your preferred candidate on Super Tuesday.

(44,228 posts)You'll stop questioning why the leading candidate in a 6-person field shouldn't automatically get the nomination, when everyone else recognizes that the candidate will be the one who reaches the 50% threshold in delegates.
