Breaking: PETE OUT

Carla Marinucci ✔@cmarinucci

New! BREAKING @PeteButtigieg to announce he is out of the presidential race, his staff now hearing the news in campaign call, sources tell us.

6:02 PM - Mar 1, 2020

He met with Jimmy Carter earlier today. It sounded like he was soul searching:

https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/01/politics/jimmy-carter-pete-buttigieg-democratic-presidential-primary/index.html

Democratic presidential candidate former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, left, meets with former President Jimmy Carter, center, at Buffalo Cafe in Plains, Georgia, Sunday, March 1, 2020.

PLAINS, Ga. (CNN)Former President Jimmy Carter sat down to an early morning breakfast with Pete Buttigieg Sunday in his hometown of Plains, Georgia, following the former South Bend, Indiana, mayor's disappointing showing in South Carolina.

Asked what he thinks of Buttigieg, Carter praised the former mayor and shared some candid commentary on his fight for the Democratic Party's nomination. The pair was joined by their spouses for the morning meal at the Buffalo Café.

Visit CNN's Election Center for full coverage of the 2020 race"I've liked him since I first met him. Year before last we built houses for Habitat for Humanity in South Bend, Indiana, because he was there," Carter told reporters. "We got to know him then and I've liked him ever since."

Carter then nodded to Buttigieg's uncertain path ahead, saying, "He doesn't know what he's going to do after South Carolina."

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

If so, I still would like Pete to deep canvass Indiana and turn her blue.

Hoosiers are hungry for the truth, a bit lost in confusing signals. They are warm, generous people who are not certain who is telling them the truth. Pence was not a good governor, but Mitch Daniels was.

There seems to be little penetration of how stimulus money benefited there. 🤷‍♀️ It did. Indianapolis is still booming.

Pete Buttigieg is uniquely suited for this gig. President Obama turned Illinois blue, helping secure democratic victory in 1992.
Me thinks the Mayor likes a challenge. Here is a great one.

Imagine Indiana blue again (Barack Obama won in 2008) ! Do believe it can be done.

Pete Buttigieg is the person to do it.

Sun Mar 1, 2020, 07:24 PM

second choice is Sanders.

That doesn't even make sense, especially if they looked at the positions of Sanders and Buttigieg

Did these supporters whose "suppossed" second choice is Sanders even listen to the debates, and Pete's views why Sanders would be a terrible choice as a nominee in the general election?

I have to wonder if there are respondents to some of these polls who are just messing around with these polls because there seems to be too many inconsistencies happening

assume you supported Pete for more reasons than just because you didn't want Biden, such as where Pete stood on the issues.

My point is that is that if someone supports someone because of where they stand on the issues, it makes no sense for them to support a candidate as their second choice who doesn't agree with their first choice on the issues

Instead of wringing out the votes 'til the bitter end because he just can't give up that sliver of hope (the typical behavior of candidates, it seems), he is going out on a high note.

He has his eyes on the prize. Not his personal, ego-driven prize, but the prize we all want, for Trump to be defeated. He's a smart man and is thinking three steps ahead in this process.

Yes anyone who runs for president has a big ego. But there's a selflessness and call to service in him that is so inspiring. He truly just wants to make people's lives better. Especially those who usually get left behind.

Warren and Bernie share the same lane. I supported Warren and donated to her campaign up until about 2 weeks ago. I stopped immediately after realizing that for her, it was over. I love Warren but she has no realistic path. It's time to move past wishful thinking.

As for Bloomberg, he competes for the first time on Tuesday. His past stances on stop and frisk and redlining makes him a "no go" for me as long as there are alternatives. I would vote for him only if there is no other choice. Still, we'll see about him on Tuesday.

It's time for you to mourn today, but be buoyed by the fact that this will not be the last we hear of Pete Buttigieg, I'm sure he'll have a long career in politics, and we're just at the beginning.

At the beginning of this primary most of us were saying that this was a quality group of candidates, one that we'd be happy with anyone winning. That sentiment will be tested in most people, as there can only be one winner, and tonight is your turn.

Take time to be disappointed at the moment, but be gearing yourself up to be ready to fight in the bigger battle leading up to this November.

I get it and agree. His stepping down is for the exact reason I chose not to come out publicly as his supporter in this race. It doesn't mean I don't like him and what he's stood for, it just means I didn't think he was the right person to beat Trump this round.

We're in it to win it this cycle. Even if it means putting some of both our bigger dreams aside for another cycle.
