they voted for Trump. I don't think Biden, or anyone else, can win just by saying "vote for me because I'm not Donald Trump".

and I supported Bernie in 2016. But seeing the way Trump has shaken our institutions, even weaponizing the Justice Department — that makes me want to elect someone who remembers how things are supposed to work.

We need to restore the foundations of our democratic republic first. Trump and Putin have exploited a lot of vulnerabilities in our system, which we will need to fix. Then we can work together as Democrats towards our ideals.

Sanders has always worked within the system. In fact, unlike some other candidates, he is opposed to eliminating the filibuster and adding more justices to the supreme court. Both Biden an Sanders will respect the constitution and democratic institutions. Both will restore the foundations of the republic. However they can only do so if they get elected. IMHO Sanders has the best chance of winning. He appeals to the same anti-establishment frustrations that Trump does. That is why in 2016 many Trump supporters said they would vote for Sanders, even though they had opposite positions on most issues. Not every Trump voter is a racist, fundamentalist, gun nut. Many were just fed up with status quo. These people may vote for Sanders but will not vote for Biden.

Biden does well with crossovers, like Bernie. Clinton had the negative crossover problem, but Joe is widely liked in the swing states. Joe will put more states in play; he even has a shot at winning Texas.
