Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumRight now I'd pick Kamala.
She's got a lot of strengths and is impressive every time I've seen her in her TV appearances.

I like Sen Harris, like her chances in the General, and think shes gonna do well in the primaries, particularly with Californias primary being early this year. Full disclosure: I live in California, so I might be a bit biased towards my Senator 🙂

(3,385 posts)Cory gets things done, as evidenced by his time as mayor of Newark. Hes very bright (with degrees from Stanford and Yale) and charismatic, and hes a true progressive. Amy will draw many of the moderates. Shes bright and very likable, with a good sense of humor. I think its the most electable ticket so far.
But I love Kamala too, and would endorse her wholeheartedly if she got the nomination. The party has so many good candidates, and Im sure whoever we nominate will be a great choice.

(731 posts)I think Cory Booker would make a great president. If I could "wish" the next president into office, it would be him.
To me, Joe Biden is the perfect foil to Donald Trump and our best nominee in terms of winning in the EC. Booker would be a great running mate in my estimation.

(630 posts)Sent her some money. Amy k also. Harris is a wonderful speaker, she understands the issues of the day. We're lucky if she's our nominee. But i'm a big fan of Sherrod brown, have been for years, and his message of "the dignity of work" speaks to all. I've heard him speak on the floor of the senate regarding poverty in America, and he resonated. He's great on ag issues. Great on workers rights. That being said, I'd happily vote for any of the 3 I mentioned, and will vote for our nominee regardless.

(767 posts)I voted for her when she was the California AG. California has "normal" pot laws. Her standing is to decriminalize pot laws is nothing new to this California citizen. I think her father's under handed comment was a "conservative" coming out of the closet; who hoped to affect her political standing. He ain't no "father" figure, but he is a cheap shot TURD......

(2,331 posts)I'm sure he's proud of her regardless.
If I went on TV and admitted to smoking pot when I was young I'm pretty sure my Dad wouldn't be thrilled about it since he was vehemently against it. For her Jamaican side of the family it might strike a nerve because Jamaicans are stereotyped as huge pot smokers and if he chose a different path he may feel she insulted the family.

There's a certain type of person who will stomp the dreams of their children if they aren't the same as their own. I don't see how a father could do this to his daughter, but it happens.

Currently, Senator Harris does not have any thing on her web site about her issues and positions...
And of the top percentage leader board, only Senator Warren has an 'Issues" page on her website!

(10,406 posts)If I had to pick today, I'd go with Kamala, with Booker a close 2nd, followed by Warren.
Kamala Harris certainly impressed me during the debacle of the Kavanaugh Hearings, as did Booker.
There's pretty much only 3 in the current field that I've eliminated from my consideration....Sanders, Biden and Gillibrand.

(9,532 posts)there are other candidates whose policies I like better.
In this race though it's critical that we pick a winner. So far Trump hasn't bullied Harris the way he has Elizabeth Warren, whose policies I greatly admire. .I wonder why?
I think Trump is afraid of Harris. As a prosecutor she knows how to tear someone apart on the stand, and would do it to Trump on the debate stage.
Also so far the only negative conservatives have managed to come up with was her offhand remark on marijuana use, which is hardly a deal breaker for anybody.
As a prosecutor she may be less appealing to some Dems due to her past defense of some tough on crime sentences. If she were president though and a Dem-controlled Congress sent her criminal justice reform bills she could well sign them. As president she would be operating under different standards than a prosecutor whose job is to get convictions of people they believe are guilty.
No candidate is perfect. But she is tough as nails. Unlike Warren who has in my view been overly apologetic over getting a DNA test to prove Trump lied, Warren is a fighter who will come out swinging if attacked.
I've always like Bernie, but he's viewed as divisive by many, and his age is a concern to me, though he has raised a lot of money and has the advantage of high name recognition and a strong following already. Klobucher's treatment of staff could come back to haunt her if true. I don't know much about some of the other potential nominees, so there could be a dark horse emerge who will ignite the Democratic base.
But for now, I see Harris as the clear front runner -- especially since she is from California which has the most delegates of any state and guess what? CA moved its primary up to March, so our state will now be a force to be reckoned with early in the primary season. If she wins here, I don't see how anyone else could overtake her.

(4,187 posts)I also really like Cory Booker and Elizabeth Warren. But Kamala Harris seems like she would be the strongest in the general election.
If we didn't live in a disgustingly sexist and racist society, we could talk about a Harris-Booker or a Harris-Warren ticket. It's sad that two white men on the same ticket don't raise any eyebrows, but two women or two minority candidates seem impossible to imagine.
