Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumMorning Joe: Prior to NV debate, Jim Clyburn was leaning towards Bloomberg.
When Bloomberg was mortally wounded, Clyburn moved towards Biden. Decided to endorse Biden after SC debate. Scarborough - "debates matter".

(31 posts)All due respect to Jim Clyburn, whom I have great respect for, his influence in SC is being wildly overstated by the pundits. Just like Dems around the country, we in SC struggled mightily with our choice, knowing we could have outsized influence and fearing casting a vote that could ultimately help Trump. People I know, black and white, debated the choices for months and when it came time to cast our ballot put personal preferences aside and chose the one candidate best positioned to beat back Sanders and defeat Trump. When I heard Clyburn was endorsing Biden, it was a blip - of course he was. The idea that one man's opinion had so much sway on us feels a little insulting to SC voters. We thought, we debated, we chose, we voted. And the rest appears to be history.

Edison which compiles voter polls and live election results for media organizations including ABC News, CBS News, CNN, NBC News and Reuters found that six out of 10 state primary voters said U.S. Representative Jim Clyburns endorsement of Biden, who was vice president under Democratic President Barack Obama, was a factor in their decision.

(36,294 posts)"Several panicked Democrats, including one with direct knowledge of the planned endorsement, said they see it as a last-ditch effort to blunt Bernie Sanders momentum before he runs away with the nomination. But even among those Democratic lawmakers and aides, some are skeptical it will work, given the several other moderates still in the race who are splitting the anti-Sanders vote.
Clyburn was already considering formally backing Biden but the pressure intensified after Sanders landslide win in Nevada on Saturday night, according to two people familiar with the endorsement discussions."
