Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumDemocrats love Bernie too
I know last night was rough for Bernie voters and supporters. I love Bernie. Elizabeth Warren is my first choice.
But now I am Riden with Biden. He's a great chance to not only beat Trump but push the policies of our government back to the left. Joe has high character and wants many of the same things that Bernie wants, his view on how to get them is more incremental though.
Bernie is still not out of it although it looks like the states remaining don't give him a path. But as a liberal I cannot thank Bernie or his supporters enough, he's truly shifted the discussion on a multitude of issues. Without Bernie we probably wouldn't even be discussing MFA or a $15 minimum wage.
Bernie might now win, but he's helped make the party stronger. And if/when he drops out he's going to endorse and campaign for Biden, I hope all of his supporters follow suit.

And I'll be damned disappointed if not. We represent a lot of the country.

(11,605 posts)I changed my avatar to support her this morning. It's largely symbolic, because she probably won't be in the race much longer, but I've always thought she would be the best president out of any of them. I'd love to see her be Biden's VP, especially if he is only going to serve one term. And I think picking her would send a message to progressives that he understands that we're a large chunk of the party who deserve to be heard. If Hillary had picked Bernie or Warren or someone equally progressive in 2016 she probably would have gotten more of the Bernie voters on board.

(25,428 posts)progressive issues will get plenty of attention.
Many tend to forget that the first step in getting progressive issues addressed is passing legislation, which clearly requires Congress. Give any of our candidates an amenable Congress and we'll see progressive issues addressed.

(18,970 posts)He ran a tough campaign and he was trying to win.
Despite what some people think, he did campaign for Hillary last time, but I think he can do a better job this time of taking his endorsement of Joe right to his supporters. Engage them more directly to let them know the importance of stopping Trump and how Joe can help achieve results that will help them and will help Bernie's goals for the country.
There's also less of an effort from anti Hillary people to paint the DNC as corrupt this time around. This won't be a Super Delegate thing, the voters will pick Joe.

(11,605 posts)That's a big part of why I didn't support him this time (I did in 2016).
I'm proud of what his campaign in 2016 accomplished, and I think he changed the party for the better. But like you said, he has been too divisive, in 2016 and now. I wish he had either run a less divisive campaign this time or stepped aside and let Warren carry the torch (which is what he wanted in 2016 to begin with).

(11,605 posts)I still defend him when people attack him. And while I wasn't planning to vote for him this year, if Warren drops out I just might, mostly to send a message. I didn't want him to get the nomination because I don't think he can win, but I do want him to do well enough to show that a lot of people agree with him on the issues and keep Biden from going too far to the center during the general or once in office.

(18,970 posts)I don't believe the directives to attack Warren came from Bernie. I also think the hostile rhetoric is not from Bernie, but from some of his most rabid supporters. He was running as an outsider and against the establishment. That was what he saw was his path to victory.
Bernie has a chance to help unite the party going forward, I'm interested to see what he does with that chance.

I despise his angry, attacking campaign. As I posted here, two days ago he came to MN, to humiliate Klobuchar, angry, waving his arms, attacking everyone while, at the same time, Klobuchar was in Dallas, talking about uniting and hope.
We hate and despise Trump for. at least in 2016, could not find a single positive thing about our country. Sanders was like that in 2016 and is continuing this time. Like Trump he is an outsider expecting to take over.
Like Trump he visited states (MA. MN, NC) right before the elections to disrupt.
After four years of fighting and offensive behavior we deserve a campaign about "the shining city on the hill." To combat the fighting words on "Social Media."
As stated by Biden at the end of a recent debate: "This is the United States of America. Theres not a single thing beyond our capacity to do if we do it together, lets go do it."
