Has Biden's VP calculus changed?

I thought Stacy Abrams would be a good choice, but Biden's strength in the South has me thinking he might do better with someone from the midwest or northeast.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:

You can go back to Palin, as a recent example. Also actually, Joe Biden, who was not picked to be Obama’s VP because of Delaware. Al Gore didn’t pick Lieberman for geographical reasons either. W didn’t pick Cheney because of Wyoming. I won’t go on. I think I’ve made my point.

California is a solid blue state. Plus, Harris has a lot of baggage with progressives due to her record as a prosecutor. And after her attacks on Biden in the debates (as well as her failure to endorse him before the California primary) some will call her a hypocritical opportunist.

So I think it will be important for biden to choose a woman of color. Geo doesn't matter much anymore. Sure, a strong vp choice from a swing state can help in that state, but it isn't critical.

VP's aren't that important to a campaign unless you choose poorly. In this case at least, you have to factor that the next vp will very much be a candidate in either 4 or 8 years. So you want someone strong.

Wed Mar 4, 2020, 12:54 PM

Certainly other candidates are currently outperforming him in particular states, but to call his performance weak in regards to an entire demographics requires both a standard and a measure-- both objective.

What is the standard and the measure you use to support your allegation?

Or (and I find this a wee bit more likely), there's no standard, no measure, and no data you're aware of... just another allegation lacking any real evidence to support it, yes?

Big time! indeed.

Stacy Abrams was born in Madison so I wonder how far that would get us. I like her. We both lived in Gulfport, MS at the same time (I didn't know her she is younger than me).

I would go with Abrams over Harris. If Harris wants to be in the cabinet, the AG is the logical job for her (and it will be a job cleaning out that Augean Stable.

I think Biden/Abrams have the chance to run a folksy charm campaign that takes away the God awful fake "populism" of Trump.

I'm not advocating for Liz, although she'd be a great choice. But Bernie supporters will want to have a reason other than Not Trump to be mollified. It also needs to be someone young-ish and dynamic, ready to step into the role as president immediately in case s/he has to. And finally, someone who will be a clear frontrunner for president after Joe's (hopefully) second term.

It's a big decision for Biden. I hope he nails it.
