There is nothing unusual or sinister in it. There is no blocking going on.

John Edwards (2008, dropped out days after the SC Primary)
Bob Kerrey (1992, withdrew several days before the first multi-state vote on 3/3)
Tom Harkin (1992, withdrew the day before the first multi-state vote on 3/3)

30. Edwards took part in the 2008 South Carolina primary.

Mar 2020

He dropped out after the Florida primary. The media wasn't acknowledging Hillary's victory there, because the DNC stripped the state of its delegates for holding its contest too early. But Edwards indicated that he was motivated to drop out by his lackluster showing in Florida.

In 2008 the Florida primary was held on January 29. Super Tuesday was one week later on February 5. Edwards dropped out on January 30. So he left the race 6 days before Super Tuesday. But that also means that he left the race 1 day after the final primary before Super Tuesday. Similarly, Pete Buttigieg left the race 1 day after the final primary before Super Tuesday.

The South Carolina primary was on January 26 that year. So Edwards actually left the race 4 days after South Carolina voted.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
