Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumJoe needs someone like Julian Castro
For VP. I was looking at Joes voters last night and in every state he got the black and women voters and older but was lacking on latino vote, youth, and more men.
He needs the energy of AOC but she is too young.
I know people want Joe to pick a woman and believe me I want a woman in there but Joe already has the woman vote, he already has the black vote.

What's best for women (and men) is that we win and begin the arduous process of fixing the courts.
I would personally suggest Gavin Newsom.

(5,554 posts)Castro failed to generate any enthusiasm with his campaign and lacks name recognition. Uninspiring and unfamiliar is a bad combo.
Klobuchar, Harris, Mayor Pete, Booker - so many better options even on the short list of former opponents

(5,554 posts)I'm not one to say they must be this gender, or that ethnicity. I want the best person overall, and yes their gender/race/ethnicity/sexual orientation is absolutely part of that.
I just don't feel there needs to be specific limiting factors, it narrows the pool of possibles too much. Also makes it too easy for infighting if we start playing those games, as top picks will not align across interest groups, we are too diverse to find someone who satisfies every corner

It's not just about "winning" women and blacks... it is sparking the VOLUME of their turnout to extreme levels.

(595 posts)I am hoping Biden goes with a female for his VP pick and think he will.
Castro is vanilla as they come and until Warren is out is campaigning for her. There are much better choices...

(3,845 posts)But he's running for Texas senate against Cornyn and Texas may be close enough that Castro can pick off that seat. It would be great if he could get Michelle Obama to do it. I'd say he has a lot of choices open to him. Harris, Klobuchar and Warren would all be great choices with lots of exposure now. Stacy Abrams would balance the ticket, so would Veronica Escobar, Congresswoman from Texas.

(11,446 posts)Whatever Biden does he has to find a way to get Bernies voters and latinos.
He is against pot being legal, maybe changing up on that would help but I dont think he will because of his son.

(1,663 posts)....strongly supported Biden, too. Bernie didn't run away with that constituency in the southeast. It's pretty fascinating. There will be tons of analysis about the vast differences within the various Latin communities.
"Joe already has the woman vote, he already has the black vote". Exactly! Women and black people turned out in record numbers to support the VP. Why would he reward that exercise in faith by picking someone else? Representation matters.
