Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumIf you were formerly a Warren supporter (or still are) and voted for Biden, may I ask why?
Just curious about the motivations.

(44,997 posts)And Elizabeth is my Senator too. I feel she ran a terrific campaign. But I think she may have made a strategic error going too far left to build off the Sanders base. It worked for a while and she eclipsed Sanders - showing a more realistic path to Healthcare For All. But Bernie stole it back. All to say, she was never able to broaden her appeal towards the center where all the voters are. It didn't help that there were a bazillion candidates on the stage dividing up potential support.
Joe, I know. And as they say, he knows me. I think he rocked it for 8 years with Obama - and many years in the Senate before. I know he's a good man as well as a fighter. And as we just saw, he knows how to win. I was worried, along with all of us, as it seemed he got off to a soft start. But if you step back and survey the huge challenge he had with a very crowded primary field, I think he played it just right. It wasn't quite rope-a-dope, but the candidates had to punch themselves out a bit through the first few rounds. The real danger was that Sanders would divide the base of our party and scoot to a Trumpian victory. I think what we just witnessed could be one of the greatest political masterstrokes we've ever seen. Whatever it was, it demonstrates that Joe and his team are jedi masters. Ninjas. They know what they're doing. They've done this before. And they know how to get amazing results.
I was seriously torn in the polling spot between Elizabeth and Joe. I cried seeing the video of people singing outside Elizabeth's home and polling spot. But in spite of that, I ultimately came to the decision that Joe had the edge to get it done. It was hard. I love them both. And Pete too. Kamala was my first choice - and good god she's such a good fighter. I hope they all come together to create a super league of awesome.

(1,185 posts)I was torn between Harris and Warren, and when Harris dropped out, I shifted 100% to Warren. I still think she's the smartest, most committed, most honest candidate on that stage. But even though 95% of my friends and acquaintances are diehard Warren supporters, she's just not getting the votes. It's...maddening.
I voted for Bernie in 2016, but his behavior and that of some (not all, but some) of his surrogates and supporters destroyed a lot of my respect for him and his candidacy.
To me, job one is getting Trump out. I don't think Bernie can build the coalition needed to pull that off. He routinely sneers at a big chunk of the Democratic Party and always has.
If Biden's candidacy hadn't started to stabilize, I was seriously considering Bloomberg, because I felt he was a safer bet than Bernie to get rid of Trump.
I guess I should switch my tag to Biden now, since that's who I'm voting for.

He is unobjectionable, has a decent history, has strong networking and people skills, knows Washington backwards and forwards, is dedicated to this country, will give years of his life in service, and is a voice for solid Democratic values.
Personally, I do not believe in the Medicare for all litmus test, and I believe that expanded Medicare and a robust public option can address our healthcare crisis. I do not believe that anyone would be able to get single pair through this Congress.

(4,510 posts)Math. I knew she wasn't going be the nominee, so I threw a vote to Biden to do my bit to prevent Sanders from winning the state. Because I can't see him winning the general.

(443 posts)She did a great job taking Bloomberg down but in the next debate couldnt pivot to anything else, continued to batter Bloomberg and looked like a shrill one trick pony. A bad look for her. Then they closed ranks around Biden and that was it.
