Too little, too late: Sanders condemns his supporters' 'ugly, personal attacks' against Warren

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said Wednesday that he is “disgusted” by any personal attacks his supporters or anyone else has lobbed at his presidential primary opponent Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.).

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow asked Sanders about attacks some of his supporters have made, tweeting images of snakes and even calling for Warren to be challenged in a primary in her next Massachusetts Senate election.

Sanders told Maddow he was “actually disgusted” and “aghast” by online vitriol directed at Warren...

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/486052-sanders-condemns-his-supporters-ugly-personal-attacks-against-warren

So now that Warren is on her way toward exiting the campaign, Bernie is shocked, absolutely shocked, that a hardy band of his core supporters has been heaping abuse on her non-friggin-stop. This has only been going on his entire campaign, as if he didn’t know, and as supporters of any other candidate who got on Bernie World’s threat radar can tell you. But now that he wants Warren’s support he’s disgusted. Ok. Me too.

primary today, I would vote for:

I think the whole narrative that Warren is siphoning off Sanders voters is inaccurate. I think most are seriously turned off to Sanders, and will move to where they feel appreciated, not threatened.

8. sanders refused to try to control his vetted delegates at the national convention
Thu Mar 5, 2020, 01:49 AM
Mar 2020

Normally going to a national convention is a once in a life time experience. I have worked really hard inside the party on campaigns and voter protection issues for a very long time to earn this trip. Too bad that sanders and his vetted delegates ruined that experience and did their best to help trump. A candidate has absolute approval rights over their pledged delegates because these delegates can change their votes and these delegates represent the candidate and campaign. I helped vet Clinton delegates and I know that I was vetted. The Clinton campaign told us that we represent her and that our actions would reflect on her and her campaign.

In contrast, sanders sent one very weak text the Sunday night before the convention and then did little or nothing to control his delegates. It was nasty I was there when the sanders delegates booed Congressman John Lewis. I was warned about this stunt 30 minutes before it happened by the Clinton campaign whip. According to my whip, sanders was asked to stop this event and declined. That incident will be used against sanders by Russia to suppress the African American vote just as was done in 2016

Russia will just run material showing sanders delegates booing John Lewis, Elijah Cummings and others to suppress the vote of African American voters and I feel that this tactic would be very effective

I was at the Texas delegation breakfast when a group of sanders delegates marched in and demanded that we condemn Clinton and change our votes to sanders.

sanders spoke to the Texas delegation the next morning and his speech was again solely about himself. There was a mini-riot due to his delegates the prior morning and the only thing that sanders talked about was himself. sanders did nothing to deal with the fact that his delegates were out of control and did nothing to try to help Hillary Clinton win the general election.

Finally a group of sanders delegates yelled at my daughter and called her the c-Word because she would not try to get me to change my vote. Again sanders was asked to tell his delegates to behave during the convention and sanders refused. I have trouble believing sanders now

..That is all there is. Are we going to believe our own, Gothmog or Bernie who is now changing his view of things?..Let's say that it was not Bernie, but Ralph Nader who helped Bush win in 2000. Would people here be supporting Ralph?. Yes, this is ugly and self defeating. Why didn't Bernie stop his people four years ago?
...And here is the key, and most important idea that I have:

..In September and October, things will get much uglier as we take on Trump. Trump will make this look like quiet picnic in May, compared to the worst hurricane you can imagine. I do not underestimate Trump, as I did before. With unlimited Russian backing (totally secret of course) Trump will not be as easy to beat as I once thought. I think the worst is yet to come. I can only imagine what that "worst" will be. But I honestly think we....ain't seen nothing yet !!!!

I saw it happen in 2016. I was behind Sanders, and fell for a lot of the "BS."
Then when I criticized Putin, they jumped all over me defending Putin.
It was very strange, because I had no idea of Russian trolls (this was a different website, of course. But it was going on here as well, to some degree).
This time around, we know better--well, some of us. They are trying their same tired tricks, but it's falling on deaf ears.

I looked at about the Berner attack 100 accounts in the last two days after the attacks on me. (I try to look at all accounts before I block them.) At least 75% were probably really people who supported Sanders--and not Russians or bots or trollbots. Most were just *ssholes like MAGAts of the left.

Most BS supporters I know in person aren't this way. However, a sizeable percentage--20%--are.

I've had Berners argue that Liz W is just another Wall Street Republican--and I just grimace and run at the first chance.

I'm a doctor, and I've had Berners with no medical knowledge lecture me on why Bernie's heart attack doesn't matter.

These Bros (of all genders) are the real low information voters.

I have been big supporter of Bernie but I have never thought of myself as a member of a cult! I know a lot of Bernie supporters and have not met a single one that has acted in any way similar to the negative acts above. It's nuts to think that anyone would do such stupid sh*t. It should be condemned at every step. That being said, in all my time reading the DU I have never seen such a negative attitude directed toward anyone (that has a D by their name) like what is being thrown at Bernie. The Bernie hate early on was very surprising. I have only posted a few comments here but have been reading just about daily for years, so my voice, I'm sure means very little to anyone who may read this, but I thought some of you should know that all the negative stuff makes some, not all of you, sound like the people that you are calling out on the Bernie side. Some of you sound pretty vicious. I will vote for any Democrat over that orange piece of puss that is now staining the Whitehouse, but I like Bernie cause of his policies and his consistency. He has been for the same things for nearly 30 years. That means something to me, I'm 67 and retired for two years. He is what is he is, an FDR type Democrat that is an independent and that mistakenly has called himself a Democratic Socialist. So what. Isn't this about policy and what we want to do for our country? He has a very large 'grassroots' support, and call me crazy but I think that is what it will take to beat the 'rump'. As much as I think Joe is a nice guy I just don't think he can really stir the base. But time will tell and I hope I'm wrong. Oh, I hope I'm wrong. My fear is we may be looking at Hillary 2.0, but if it's Joe, he's got my vote for sure.

It was yet another leadership test that BERNIE FAILED. Why is it that ONLY NOW he's willing to step up and "do the right thing". I think it's all a mater of motivation and determining who has the most to gain.

Previously, HE had the most to gain by saying nothing and not scolding or alienating his supporters. For, to do the right thing would risk having them leave.

Now that he wants (or needs) Warren's endorsement and her supporters... he's determined that HE BENEFITS MOST by doing what he should have done from the very beginning.

It's not a matter of doing the right thing for its OWN SAKE and doing it BECAUSE it's the right thing to do... somehow it always circles back to doing ONLY what benefits the campaign.

Well, that's just wrong. It's selfish and wrong. It's NOT the kind of thing that a respectful LEADER would do.
