Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumAOC is voting Blue no matter who.
I am supporting Bernie Sanders until the end. But at the same time, I also am committed to supporting the nominee, whoever that might be.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), quoted by Bloomberg.

(20,709 posts)As for the few holdouts, I'll be working on them. One thing that would be helpful to me in that regard is for people in the media to stop calling them brownshirts and cultists and comparing them to the coronavirus and the Nazi army.

(11,605 posts)At least 76% of us voted for Hillary in 2016. But other than showing a brief clip of a sign someone made using a slogan I'm pretty sure I started in 2016 ("Bernie Has My Heart, Hillary Has My Vote" at the convention, the media doesn't give the "normal" Bernie supporters much attention. The radical, disruptive ones are more interesting.

(2,706 posts)That doxxed candidates, blocked their cars, telephoned others with insults and threats, or stood outside their house late a night with a megaphone yelling?
Because Id like to speak to these idiots. The only Amy one I recall was the woman who caucused for Pete, but didnt know Pete was gay. Which is a far cry from the above harassment.
Ill wait....

(2,706 posts)As to the second string slam, this is why your candidate isnt going to win. Lack of graciousness and inability to build a coalition outside his already captured base.

(11,605 posts)As tweets from Bernie supporters this year. To be fair, though, it could be because I unfollowed a lot of the most obnoxious Bernie tweeters in 2016 after the primaries were over.

(9,288 posts)I supported Sanders till Clinton became the official nominee then supported and voted for her.
I will support either Warren/Sanders this time till the convention then support the official nominee this time as well.
I am no political hipster, my positions are more than a fashion choice to me. And the only way to see them succeed is to vote Democratic in November no matter which candidate we choose.
And really Bloomberg was the only one running I did not like in some way so it wont be that bad for me.

(37,748 posts)Or pretending that simply by placing the word 'establishment' in front of a noun, that noun has no credibility.
Or try dropping the whole "we're being oppressed by different opinions" as well... as that tired old dog just don't hunt any more.
Might be easier to "work on" that first... as it seems so much nearer to you than not.

(17,530 posts)To be found at the extreme ends of any political issue will always be there. They are small in number and small in power.
At some point, it appears that Bernie will have a decision to make, to the be a uniter or a divider. I hope he has the character do the right thing for the sake of his people and the rest of the American people.

(17,600 posts)and when I have referred to a certain subset of supporters as "cultish", I have always been clear that I am referring to a relatively small (if loud and obnoxious) subset.
I think Nazi references are WAY over the top and am sorry if anyone uses that. I don't believe it is even accurate for any actual Sanders supporter.
"Cultish", though - I know some in real life that I feel warrant that label. Luckily, as said, it is a small group. I just hope they either come around, or at least don't screw it up for the rest of us. I appreciate any of their fellow supporters who are "working on them" as you say. (It's never too early to try to get cult-like followers - of anyone - back to a normal appreciation of their hero or heroine. If you really don't know any Bernie supporters like that, then great, it's not on you.)

(45,427 posts)at this point the feel the burn crowd can hold our nominee's feet to the fire to commit to a liberal platform. If we can get lefty legislation passed through a Dem majority Senate, a Dem president will sign it into law whoever it is.
