Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumWarren told Maddow that some supporters' bad behavior is a particular problem w/Sanders's supporters
She said she's had a "short" discussion of this with Sanders, wouldn't go into detail about what he said, said Maddow should ask him.
She just suggested that someone in the campaign should be assigned to deal with this sort of thing every day. That campaigns should keep trying creative solutions to this sort of problem.

(1,165 posts)Since I switched from Warren To Bernie today, I've been told I'm helping elect Trump, called a whiner for linking to an article about sexism in the Atlantic, and told my posts are "bullshit" all right here at little ole DU. It was like a switch got flipped and every nasty thing was suddenly acceptable. It's either because I am supporting Bernie or not supporting Biden, but it hasn't really happened before except with Bloomberg supporters.

(17,387 posts)I believe Elizabeth Warren over Bernie Sanders. The concerted trolling and threats coming from Bernie supporters is well documented. This also is not new. It is a carry over from 2016.
https://www.vox.com/culture/2020/1/15/21067331/warren-is-a-snake-hashtag-explained
The trend seems to have begun with some Sen. Bernie Sanders supporters, who were angry with Warren for maintaining that Sanders told her privately that he didnt believe a woman could win the 2020 presidential election, even after Sanders denied saying any such thing. After a while, though, the hashtags continued trending not only because of anti-Warren Twitter users denouncing her, but also because Warren fans were using the hashtags to denounce Sanders and proclaim their support for Warren. (And possibly because of some bots, too. Twitter in 2020!)
But its notable that this ostensibly political argument is centered on the idea of Warren being a snake because using the snake emoji to troll an opponent is not an idea that arose out of politics. Its an idea that arose out of fandom. Specifically, it arose out of celebrity stan culture.
Which means that this political debate is looking less and less like a discussion about the electability of the candidates and more and more like stan trolling.

(1,165 posts)I agree with Warren. But her answer was nuanced. They agreed that Bernie denouncing these things was not working and went on to point out that some extraordinary measure was needed. Warren had a plan for that. All good.
Joy Gray is pointing out comments like Jason Johnson's, I dont care how many people from the island of misfit black girls you throw out there to defend you, and similar attacks online that go unremarked. She is also not wrong either.
I've noticed the change in tone since I added Bernie as my preference. It's like people see his face and feel anything they say is justified because they need him to be a villain, which makes them virtuous.

Some of you need to take a chill pill. You folks keep this up with my main sister Liz, you Bros deserve some Samuel L. Jackson talking to Honey Bunny in "Pulp Fiction." Not going to post it now, but the next time, it's coming up. SLJJ = all of us and Honey Bunny = the Bad Bernie Bros.
Liz doesn't need me, but I will fight for her to the hilt. She's impressed me beyond belief.

(9,524 posts)staff or just supporters in general. Seems like it would be staff, although while candidates can't control all their supporters do, they can certainly set the tone. So maybe she did mean supporters also.

Every time I hear her speak something in my heart leaps. I knew this day was inevitable probably even before Super Tuesday. But my husband and I both KNEW who was the best, most important candidate in the race and we proudly voted for Elizabeth Warren on Tuesday.
Great teachers (and its obvious to me that Elizabeth Warren is one) know that when you correct and guide children, teens, or adults into better behavior you help them become the best they can be. And that in turn benefits our whole society.
There are no libertarians among great teachers, it seems to me. Letting people say and do ugly things hurts those on the receiving end, sure. But it also hurts those on the giving end too. They become/are unlikable. Their personal relationships suffer and so do their employment opportunities.
Great teachers' aim is the greatest good for the most people, including most especially the young people in their orbit.
Thank you for teaching us all what the best of the best is like.
