Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumIs anyone getting crap elsewhere on the internet from Bernie supporters? I'm dying here.
I hang out on facebook a bit mostly with others who share my hobby (glass working). Crap. Bernie got cheated and I must be corrupt and hate the poor and minorities because I don't support him.
Any advice how to get them off my back?

(930 posts)If they are talking to you about politics, make the discussion about a mutual desire to beat Trump. Find common ground if you can and let them see Joe in the light that you see Joe, as opposed to casting Bernie in the light that perhaps you see Bernie in.
Also, I know a lot of Bernie supports in my day to day life, every one of them is a fine person. I always keep in mind, when I'm on-line, that there really is an effort by the GOP and the Russians to magnify the voice of any Sanders supports that feel aggrieved and to sew division among us. Don't let them. If somebody is being negative ad nauseum, don't talk to them, and certainly don't jump into the pig pin with them.

(12,157 posts)I am not bashing Sanders or his supporters. It is in the interest of Putin to sow discourse in the members of our party if they want to keep their puppet king in the White House. The following quote is from the book, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Every guest in this Hall, said Dumbledore, and his eyes lingered upon the Durmstrang students, will be welcomed back here at any time, should they wish to come. I say to you all, once again in the light of Lord Voldemorts return, we are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided. Lord Voldemorts gift for spreading discord and enmity is very great. We can fight it only by showing an equally strong bond of friendship and trust. Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open.
Modified to be more specific to us.
Every person in this party, is welcome at any time. in the light of Putin's desire to return Russia to power, we are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided. The Kremlin's gift for spreading discord and enmity is very great. We can fight it only by showing an equally strong bond of friendship and trust. Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open."

(43,867 posts)On Facebook, simply blocking someone will render you and that person invisible to each other.
But as someone who has a bad habit / hobby of feeding trolls, here's how I deal with them.
Find the one thing that really triggers them and keep hammering it in each reply. You can even cut and paste it. Their replies will get increasingly off topic, heated, and insulting because you won't follow them on their off-topic tangents, but don't be baited. Keep hammering that triggering reply.
You'll know the conversation is nearing the end when they start saying things like "I don't have time to sit here all day and debate."
Believe me, I catch it from not only Sanders supporters and their type, but also Depp heads, conservative comic book fans, and those who think if Italy could just put Amanda Knox on trial ONE MORE FUCKING TIME, they'd definitely find her guilty of something.

An Open Letter to White Liberals Blaming 'Low Information' Black Voters for Not Cleaning Up White Folks' Mess

Dear Sir or White Man,
Im writing this letter, lurking outside the threshold to equality, peering through the same peephole through which we watched you enjoy 401 years of unfettered, glorious freedom while black people presented themselves as a living sacrifice, offering their necks to nooses, their skulls to batons and their childrens bodies to firebombs.
A few days ago, I was informed that some of you may have a problem with black voters who actually went to voting booths and exercised their right to vote for whomever the fuck they wanted. Apparently, anyone who didnt vote the way outraged, left-leaning white liberals wanted must have been an uninformed heathen, a moderate or, even worse, a centrist.
And now your fragile brittle hearts are broken into a thousand little pieces because black people have rejected the Buddha of Birkenstock-wearers during his quest for the presidency. And, by not choosing Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden supporters are somehow ruining America.
. . . much more. Really, go have a read.
And this is the comment
This piece deserves a ten minute standing ovation. I mean that Bernie interview last night was peak dude bros. Now to all you so called woke black folks ripping us establishment low information stuck on the plantation black voters
I have some questions: After hearing Vermont Jesus last night say Jim Clyburn and I dont share the same politics why in the ever loving fuck would any black person that fought for the right to vote, live and work in this country support that crotchety old fuck?
Also why should anyone support the man that wanted to primary the first black man to hold the office he is so desperate to hold?
Oh Irony alert 50 Stents now has the fucking gall to use Barack in an ad in Florida? I mean there is shameless and then there is Lord Maple From Burlington.
Other questions, why did he not have a job prior to forty?
Why did he leave diverse Brooklyn to take his pasty flat ass to Vermont?
Where is he getting his money from?
If you dumb ass cargo short wearing, white reggae band listening fake ass revolutionaries think your $27 have helped this lazy ass grifter run for office for FOUR YEARS you are a special brand of dumbass.
Oh one other question, where the fuck are Nina Turners edges?

She is. But when she gets her struggle edges back within Black Diaspora boundaries, what she cannot ever do again is speak for us.

I have 2 Sanders fans on FB who were going crazy yesterday. Both of them originally supported Sanders in 2016 but easily switched to HRC. Yesterday there were some damn crazy posts from them about Biden hates half of Democrats and we'd never win with him. I am giving them a few days to calm down and be reasonable like they usually are, but if they insist of spreading hate for Democrats and won't stop - I will sadly unfriend them next week and hide any hate filled posts in the meantime

(11,605 posts)I see a lot more anti-Bernie stuff both here and on Twitter than I do anti-Biden stuff, TBH. On Twitter, that may be in part based on who I follow - I unfollowed some of the Bernie or Bust people after the primaries were over.
Especially when Bernie was the frontrunner but even now, I see a lot of anti-Bernie posts/tweets and a lot of people blaming him and his supporters for Hillary losing and demands that he drop out now, followed by proclamations that he won't because his ego is too big. Nevermind that more than half the people haven't voted yet.

(1,185 posts)Lots of hobby-oriented groups have policies like that.
I had to block a Bernie-supporting relative the other day who totally out of the blue started posting public rants about my private posts. I wasn't posting anything particularly incendiary -- just that I had supported Warren and was switching to Biden, and that I was troubled by the fact that some Bernie supporters publicly said they voted Stein in 2016 or stayed home. Nothing defamatory, all expressed calmly and factually.
She and her friends were screaming about me in public, calling me a Russian troll, etc. Like, what? But that said, the block wasn't because I disagreed with her, but because she posted about me in public. I couldn't trust her anymore.
In some cases, I just limit the audience for political posts because I have some friends who'll come in and start running people out of the discussion. I've got one Warren-supporting friend who starts fights with my other friends on all my political posts, so I just filter them out. They can't have a civilized discussion about politics.
