Sen. Bernie Sanders has canceled a planned rally in Jackson, Mississippi, going to Michigan instead.

“Sen. Bernie Sanders has canceled a planned rally in Jackson, Mississippi, and will instead travel to Michigan on Friday, a striking indication that his presidential campaign is shifting its focus to the Midwest and largely ceding another Southern state to Joe Biden,” the New York Times reports.

“The change in plans suggests that Mr. Sanders will not challenge Mr. Biden for the support of black voters in the South — a vital base in the Democratic Party — and is instead going all-in on the Midwest as he tries to compete for the overlapping slice of the electorate made up of working-class voters.”

And Bernie’s tasting Joe’s dust in Michigan. Whitmer was holding back giving any endorsements but has gone ahead and tapped Joe.

Say that Bernie’s followers are a real problem with their nasty, hateful attacks!

Something tells me that will color what she decides to do. She also said the candidates were responsible for what they did.

'Just as with national polling, Biden consistently led the Democratic field in Michigan throughout 2019 up to Feb. 8, when Biden crashed everywhere. That date is when the first post-Iowa polls were released in the wake of Biden’s terrible showing. Sanders took the lead over Biden 25 percent to 16 percent in the last poll before South Carolina — but the first post-South Carolina poll in Michigan saw Biden jump 13 points to a 29-23 lead over Sanders. And the poll still has Bloomberg, Buttigieg and Klobuchar getting a combined 20 points. Given the late move to Biden everywhere, Michigan has to be not just strong for Biden, but a likely 10-15 point victory.'

Biden was up in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Indiana prior to crashing post Iowa/NH. Now's he going up again, this time by greater numbers. Bernie's fucked. Maybe Wisconsin will throw him a bone.

I understand why he is trying to build a firewall in Michigan.

However, I hope he realizes that without a strong black vote in November, there is no chance of winning.

I also hope he realizes that turnout among traditional Sanders supporters is flat or down. Turnout is up in traditional primaries dominated with AA voters.

Sanders is really between a rock and a hard place.

he decided as far back as 2016, that he was not going to put a serious effort into courting the African American community. What that says about his attitude towards them, is open to conjecture. The Sanders campaign went for a narrow slice of the voters, gambled and lost.
