There are people that say we lost presidential elections because of candidates being too moderate.

I have to wonder what the definition of a moderate when the label was given to these candidates. Mondale, Gore, Kerry, & Clinton.

1. The fact is

that we actually have few moderates left in our party. I’d call Bill Clinton the last moderate Dem to head our ticket. Since then, our candidates have been reliably liberal, including Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden.

The fact is almost the entire Senate is "moderate" on economic issues affecting the average American. The proof is the results and the economic status of average Americans compared to the past.

(Aside from Clinton) lost because of a horrifically run campaign. Dukakis wouldn't fight back, Gore tried to play nice, Kerry wouldn't respond to Bush's bullshit, Mondale was wildly disorganized.

Bill Clinton and Barack Obama won by fighting. Anytime the RW spewed something out, there was an immediate reaction.

I still shudder every time I think of how much of a disaster Joe Lieberman was. One of the biggest mistakes Gore ever made.

Nor did he help Nader voters.

I don’t like him. But he wasn’t why Gore lost.
