Do What You Have to Do.

Last edited Sat Mar 7, 2020, 05:35 PM - Edit history (1)

I was on Daily Kos a few minutes ago and saw this description of Biden from a Bernie supporter:

Biden voted for the Iraq War due to falling for conspiracy theories about “weapons of mass destruction.” His son was involved in questionable dealings with a foreign government, capitalizing on his Dad’s name. His brother had a very questionable land deal with a lobbyist. The Obama/Biden administration did the bidding of special interest groups (remember the Yellowstone wolves and Obama’s rancher secretary of state?). Biden can't get through the first sentence of the Constitution without flubbing it.

My husband is also a Bernie supporter and goes on and on about how Biden and Trump are the same.

So, how many of you are supporting Biden because you want to vs. supporting Biden because you have to? Or still supporting Bernie?

If that's really a Sanders supporter, it's a good demonstration that there's a little more overlap than some might like to admit.

The blurb is from, I think, a Sanders supporter, although it could be a RW-lurker trying to dissuade voters.

I want Trump gone. He is a liar, an embarrassment, and a panderer to the Right, with a determination to make a profit from being president and do what he can to enrich the 1% in the process. He doesn't care about the American people, he doesn't care about our health, our well-being, our ability to get decent jobs, our safety from police brutality, none of it. He is one big massive ego trip, and it sickens me that ANYBODY voted for him.

I am not sure that Biden will confront the 1%, make them pay more taxes, go after large corporations, make them pay more taxes. I would love to see that happen, but it's not my biggest priority.

Somehow, that seems to be the big priority of Bernie supporters - go after corporations. And if you're not pledging to do that, you're an "establishment Democrat".

Not sure what happened to supporting women's rights, being pro-choice, fighting climate change, black-lives-matter and fighting police brutality. Somehow, none of those are important. Or *as* important.

I don't get that.

I'm not in the 1% but I have a 401K and I like it when the market does well. Maybe that makes me "establishment". Frankly, I don't care. I just want to beat Trump.

Same shit coming from Trump and Sanders supporters = overlap. That doesn't apply to all of them, of course, and it doesn't mean they have much in common, but it means that some clearly share some of the same traits, gullibility to the same conspiracy theories being one of them.

Burisma? Please. Everyone knows it's a hoax, including Trump's own staff who tried to warn him it was a hoax.

And who was Obama’s rancher secretary of state? Neither Clinton nor Kerry seem much like the ranching type.

The guy's an an idiot, and frankly, I suspect he's a plant. The problem is that people apparently can't tell the difference and lap it all up, not realizing that they're being played or are cheering on ignorance. If that's indicative of what Daily Kos users (or Sanders supporters, for that matter) think is sound reasoning, my choice to ignore the place appears to be a solid one.

I switched to coming over here at DU a lot more and going to DailyKos a lot less when the people over there seemed to decide that Warren ruled, Bernie was OK, and Biden was the devil.

Ever since Super Tuesday, there has been an onslaught of Bernie lovers trashing Biden over there. They seem to think that if they can just pump out enough anti-Biden diaries that the world will magically change.

The situation doesn't have a binary choice.

Biden was on my short list but not my clear favorite, but I'm supporting him because I want to, not because I have to. I suspect that's the case with many voters, especially others who were undecided.

He is so convinced that Bernie is the only one that can beat Trump. He’s wrong. He’s also 29.
Old (true) story that reminds me of Bernie: Years ago (before online shopping) a toy company put out a limited number of Elvis commemorative dolls. The 100k or so dolls sold out immediately. The toy company was thrilled and went back into production, soon millions of Elvis dolls were on store shelves. And the vast majority ended up half price in the bargain bin. Why? Because most of people that really wanted the Elvis doll bought it in the limited run. That’s Bernie (IMO): his appeal isn’t going to go beyond his base of fans like my son.
