Bernie Sanders made a pitch for the backing of Senator Elizabeth Warren and her supporters on Sunday in an attempt to reverse his rival Joe Bidens surging momentum towards the Democratic partys presidential nomination.
In a series of appearances on political talk shows two days before crucial primary votes in Michigan, Missouri and four other key states, Sanders highlighted the alignment of his progressive policies on a range of issues to those of the liberal Massachusetts senator, who dropped out of the race on Thursday and who has yet to announce an endorsement.
His move came on the same day as another former rival, the California senator Kamala Harris, announced that she was backing Biden to win the nomination and beat Donald Trump in November, adding to other candidates who have dropped from the race and swung their support to the former vice-president, including Amy Klobuchar, Pete Buttigieg and Mike Bloomberg.
We would love to have Senator Warrens support, we would love to have the millions of people who supported Senator Warren, Sanders said on CNNs State of the Union.

(29,050 posts)yet people keep talking about her "embarrassing" third place finish, when she was really in a virtual TIE for second place. .

(42,862 posts)Even though she didn't endorse anyone, she was VERY clear in her condemnation of Bernie's campaign and the organized smears, attacks, insults, denigrating comments and sexism.

(6,543 posts)The look in her eyes when asked the endorsement question was close to the same one she had when he ate Bloomberg's lunch on TV. I suspect I know who she wants to win (and it ain't Sanders, IMO) , but doesn't want to be put on the spot.

(6,543 posts)waiting until after his ass was handed to him on ST and then saying he is appalled at the attacks on Liz (but no one else) - only after he desperately needs her support, is not going help his cause. More opportunism. We aren't blind nor deaf.
Most of the Warren supporters here on DU, and most of the ones I know elsewhere are going with Biden. Polls may say roughly 50-50, but Warren's people are mostly pragmatic, well educated, and well-informed voters and know that to get progressive policies in place, in any form, mean winning. And insulting us first and then begging forgiveness when stuck in quicksand isn't going to play well. We'll see how the votes turn out.
I think Liz is just going to wait and see how things turn out and then support the Democratic nominee. It's the smart and safe move
