Related: About this forumThe Sunrise Movement credibility. Are they hurting the cause?
Who are they? Where do t hey get their money and why would they give Joe Biden an F- on Climate? These falsehoods will only hurt the cause. They can't possibly care about climate change. They look like a phony group. Does anyone have info on them?

(29,199 posts)Sunrise Movement is an American youth-led political movement coordinated by Sunrise, a 501(c)(4) political action organization that advocates political action on climate change. When first incorporated in 2017, the group's goal was to elect proponents of renewable energy in the 2018 midterm elections,[2] first in the Democratic primaries and then in the general election. After the election, the organization has been focused on gaining a consensus within the Democratic Party in support of an environmental program known as the Green New Deal.
Together with Justice Democrats and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the group organized a sit-in in the office of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, which brought Sunrise its first significant press coverage.[3] Sunrise organized a similar event in February 2019, bringing a group of young people to confront Senator Dianne Feinstein in her office.

(5,969 posts)and cause resentment against them. If they'd care about their cause, they'd try to get their message out and work together with the Dems to achieve what they want. If they believe they can achieve their goals by hurting Dems and getting Repubs elected, then they are either incredibly stupid or simply not serious about their cause.

Obviously, because they support Senator Sanders, they must be suspect.

(102,231 posts)I think they are worthy of scrutiny. That isn't bias. That is being smart, given the interjection of Russian (and RW) issues into our elections. If the leaders of this group MIGHT be merely dupes of a wider malign effort, it warrants a closer look.

(37,748 posts)I get that you want them to fit into the martyred, ignoble, righteous-fist-in-the-air narrative, but realize you do that for your comfort only.
We can, and do plainly see their own actions brought this reaction.

(41,959 posts)I dont begrudge their support for the Green New Deal or Sanders but its didnt explain why theyre targeting Democrats, ignoring the GOP and disrupting specifically Joes rallies.
They were horrific last night. They didnt even respond to Symone Sanders repeated offer to talk to them, even after she got knocked to the floor in the midst of their disruption. They were treated with respect and they acted like jerks.
They are doing their cause great harm and no good that I can see. There has to be something beyond outrage.

(42,862 posts)Yes... it's bad form to protest and disrupt one's allies. In the same way that it's bad form and ill-advised for a candidate to denigrate and demean and insult the party that he (or she) may want to someday lead... it makes zero sense for groups like this to protest and be disruptive at the event of their allies.
This is the kind of thing that would be far more appropriate if it took place at a GOP event.
I'm afraid that their naivete and lack of sophistication come shining through when they attack their friends rather than enemies. It shows an erratic "plan" and true lack of focus and zero discipline. They just want to lash out at someone... anyone.. even if mean alienating friends and others who are actually receptive and sympathetic and are already working to help the cause.
It's just foolish.

(18,402 posts)If the Green New Deal is really the reason behind their existence, the question is: why all the dramatics?
This is not a piece of legislation. It's merely a "resolution," meaning it's a statement of principles, a wish list, a position paper. It has no force of law, and so nothing will change even if every member of Congress votes for it. Individual climate change regulations will need to be drafted, go through committee, and be voted on.
It's like Miss America standing at the microphone saying "I want world peace." Nice, but it's fairly meaningless. So why are they being so aggressive? There must be another reason.
