OK, Boomers! The Sandernista protesters are stealing our chants

from the 1960s. Now, it's "HEY HEY, HO HO, Joe Biden Has got to Go!" I remember that chant, but it had "LBJ" in it, instead.

Retro Homage to the Boomers! Respect is being paid.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:

That seems kind of apropos to the conversation. haha

Seems the chant dates to at least the 1950s, often used in sports in the "early" days.

than reducing a crowd to a PA system, where one dictator speaks and the auditors echo, demonstrating their rage and individuality by mindlessly obeying and repeating. (It's a useful skill early in interpreter training, but after that not so much.)

At least in the zombie church services with statement/response portions to their services the larger group doesn't just echo, even if it does just mindlessly read the responses.

The current crop of protesters mocks Boomers, but then copies their protest strategies without even realizing that they're just doing the same thing we were doing over 50 years ago.

I suppose every generation believes they are the first to do something. That is rarely true.

Many of them are new to politics and new to everything that goes with that, including the history of politics, the history of Democrats, and the history of the Democratic Party. Some of them seem to insist (intentionally or otherwise) that political history began in 2015, when one Bernard Sanders started a five-year voyage for the presidency.

That's part of it, of course. They don't have a frame of reference outside of the past five years, except for a few isolated incidents and/or vague references. FDR, a vehement anti-socialist, is perceived as the ultimate socialist. And, Bernie got arrested once. And he never called himself a socialist without the "democratic" modifier. Right.

As such, they don't see what we political junkies who've lived through decades of this stuff see - everything's a cycle and just about everything's been done before.

On the other hand, back in the late 1960s, we sort of did the same thing. A lot of the techniques we used originated in the labor protests of the 1920s. I remember a resurgences of Woody Guthrie songs of that era.

Nothing is ever really new, it seems. We look back for clues on what to do now.

His campaign, to their credit, understood that and tried to plan accordingly (the 30% plan), but as we've seen in two consecutive cycles, his support has a hard cap, and that's just on the Democratic side.

There is no middle ground for dissent within the party. Doesn't Donald, every time a republican strays from the Trump-path (it does not happen often), accuse the 'offender' of siding with the 'evil Democrats'.

Not all of them are terrific. There's a certain irony in those blonde girls smiling broadly and dancing to that song.

Contradictions aplenty.

I remember a couple of very large anti-war protests in the DC area in 1968-9. If there was music, it resulted in bigger crowds, but a lot of people were smiling and dancing. I thought at the time that it took something away from the reasons we were there, actually. On the other hand, all that celebrating led to all sorts of fun activities later, so...

"Hey, hey, LBJ...how many kids did you kill today?"

It's a shame LBJ got himself sucked into the quagmire of Vietnam...he was one of the most progressive Presidents we ever had but a lot of his accomplishments don't really get recognized because of that damn war.

That was back when we had a pretty radical left wing...not like today. But ol' Bernie's working on it!
