The reason Illinois didn't defer the primary was because there is no assurance that the virus

situation is going to get better, and from all appearances that speculation looks like where it is headed

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

give everyone the opportunity to get mail-in ballots?
I fortunately applied for mine on the final day last week, so could take advantage of that option, but otherwise, I do not think I would have put voting above the risk of catching the virus. I can only imagine this drastically reduced the voter turnout, no?

We have early voting in Illinois and vote by mail. We’ve been able to vote for 2 weeks now and every registered voter in Cook County (Chicago) got a cheery post card telling us how in English and Spanish, to vote by mail. It also includes a reminder where our polling place is and what ward and precinct we are in. Oh and we got snazzy bracelets that say ‘I voted’

I honestly don’t know what else they could have done for us.

primary today, I would vote for:

and let's be honest - the masses did not take this seriously until mid last week. there are probably TONS of people who planned to vote in person as usual who were now suddenly faced with a difficult decision.
Heck, I thought i was ahead of the curve on all of this and still did not decide i should get a mail ballot until the thurs or fri deadline (not sure which - forgot from drinking wine right now ) so glad i had the chance right then.

Only encourage and provide easy ways to get there.

Early voting, and vote by mail was an option in Illinois.

I suspect COVID-19 will impact how we vote nationwide. I hope states are ramping up vote by mail production.

Democracy must carry on. We had elections during all our wars, famously the Civil War (Imagine if Lincoln lost his re-election), but also the deadly Spanish Flu.

If we can’t continue to function as a democracy, if the voice of the people is silenced here with this crisis, then we are too weak to carry on.

I don’t think we are that weak. We need to make unexpected changes. It will be messy, but we can do it.
