Biden blindsides Trump's Florida ally

MIAMI — Joe Biden lauded seven governors — drawn from both parties — by name on Monday, praising their leadership during the coronavirus crisis.

On Wednesday, he singled out one for sharp criticism: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

In doing so, Biden managed to highlight both the crucial role Florida plays in the presidential race, and the equally critical role it occupies in the national debate over responding to the coronavirus crisis.

After images of drunken spring-breakers partying amid a contagion were broadcast nationally, DeSantis — a protege of President Trump — was thrust into the vanguard of Republican governors balking at issuing a broad shelter-in-place order to limit the spread of the virus.

What I like about him is that I feel at ease about what he'll be like in office. I feel relief. I feel like I'll be able to breathe again, and go to sleep at night knowing that tomorrow will bring a day very much like the one before it, or better. I feel like I'll be able to put politics on a back burner when I have other things demanding my attention, and not worry about the pot boiling over--the country will be fine, things will get done and won't need constant vigilance from we the people.

Excited is the last thing I want after all these years of chaos. The prospect of having normalcy again with Biden excites me, but what he will do once he's there shouldn't. That I know what to expect of him, that I know he will be a steady and calm leader, is exactly what I like most about him.

easy to spotlight, there are thousands of people each week coming down to visit relatives and friends. Just on my block in the last three weeks, there have been visitors from Virginia, Ohio, Tennessee, and New York, and that's only the ones I know. This is always a prime time for visitors from the north but you'd think they'd know better. Not only that but those they're visiting seem to think nothing of it. After all, it's just their best friend, son, daughter, grandchild...

en masse -- those who are paying attention.

On Wednesday (yesterday), the Florida Department of Health reported 270 new coronavirus cases in the state since Wednesday morning and said that the total cases in Florida now stands at 1,682.

I've seen a map this morning that I can't reproduce here, that shows the bug is now in every Florida county, despite any maps you see that just show hotspots.

People in other countries are saying their last goodbyes to their dying family over Facetime or other videophone stuff.

Take care. Thank you for reading.

Two reasons to leave florida:

1) at some point in the not so far away future, it will be covered with water. No big deal if you are older, you will be gone.

2) and more importantly, if you are in the southern half of Florida, the CDC has you in a computer model of the Corona Virus, that looks pretty scary, even compared the rest of the entire nation. This is a really big deal if you are older!!!!!!!!

And yes, I know something about Florida, not a lot..... I have visited there countless times. It seems to me that there are small pockets of Dems and they are few and far between....

and possibly criminally culpable Republican government. But FL's a hotter climate, and COVID incidence is less aggressive where average temps are @64 and above (where we are they're supposedly @62). And FL did get all the PPE initially requested, a perk of Republican dysfunction and corruption, but it's a break it's going to need big time.

Please, please, please let there be a big hot weather lull to give us time to prepare for next fall.

Btw, I write this looking out over a gorgeous, central FL freshwater marsh that's part of a wilderness preserve. Upper 80s, which I don't do well, but shade from the big live oaks and almost constant breezes mean it's lovely on the covered patio most of the day.

27. And Governor DeSantis' response? Blame California
Thu Mar 26, 2020, 01:49 PM
Mar 2020

So, with a curfew imposed in Miami to try and stop the virus's spread, what does deSantis do?

Blame California which is rich in so many horrible ways.

DeSantis claims stay at home orders don't work. He says just look at the block parties in California.

There are not any in person block parties in California. Now, the virtual kind? California does have you covered.

Note to DeSantis: you are confusing Florida, the state you are supposed to govern, with California.

https://www.gainesville.com/news/20200325/neighbors-hosting-virus-friendly-block-party-call-311?template=ampart

And sir, your failure to take appropriate action has already helped cause the death of a 34 year old Southern California man. The man visited Disney land in March, returned home and tragically died shortly thereafter from this virus. May his family find more support and comfort than the lies from DeSantis provide.
