+ The first thing you should do when you go to your new candidate group is select a member to serve as the lead host of that group. That person will have all the normal functionality of a group host, including naming additional hosts, locking discussion threads, and blocking disruptive people out of the group. When you have selected a person let an admin know so we may designate that person as lead host.

I'm the host of the philosophy group now. It's not a hard job. You just keep an eye out for users who don't follow the groups statement of purpose and you lock their thread if they do. The host can also block a user from the group but that's probably not going to come up since only Buttigeig people are allowed to post. But say one of our people decides to trash our candidate, you can lock their thread and if they don't stop trashing our candidate or stop breaking TOS I suppose the host could block them.

The other big thing is that the host can install other hosts to help out. The host can also remove a host who is under them. The top host is top dog.

Host need to regularly keep watch on what's going on so it's nice to have help... as long as they can be trusted not to abuse the position.

One other thing, you can only host if you have no hides and you're a star member too.

That's important to me.

I belonged for some time to a group where it appeared the 'Host' was absent for weeks at a time
and there were a number of (what I considered) to be inappropriate posts.

helps cover the field unless it's a very quiet group. But we don't want a quiet group here, right?

That I'd be willing to cover the host spot so we can appoint extra hosts and at least we're covered. I don’t foresee difficulties with this group. If you think that's a reasonable deal just post a reply to that effect and we'll see how it goes.

So far the third longest thread is this one so I don't think it's going to be that big of a job. But we want participation so hopefully it will grow.

I'd step in now just so we're covered and there's someone to appoint other hosts.

defacto7 asked me if I would host and after some hemming and hawing, I agreed to take it on.

So I'm lead host and he's another host!

Skinner installed us.
