I keep hearing from RWers that President Obama is or wants to take away their rights

Is it the right to be a burden on the state if they don't want to buy insurance?
Seriously, does anyone know what they are talking about?

The Case for Obama: Why He Is a Great President. Yes, Great.

Obama’s résumé of accomplishments is broad and deep, running the gamut from economic to social to foreign policy. The general thrust of his reforms, especially in economic policy, has been a combination of politically radical and ideologically moderate. The combination has confused liberals into thinking of Obamaism as a series of sad half-measures, and conservatives to deem it socialism, but the truth is neither. Obama’s agenda has generally hewed to the consensus of mainstream economists and policy experts. What makes the agenda radical is that, historically, vast realms of policy had been shaped by special interests for their own benefit. Plans to rationalize those things, to write laws that make sense, molder on think-tank shelves for years, even generations. They are often boring. But then Obama, in a frenetic burst of activity, made many of them happen all at once.

I had the most frustrating conversation

It was with young woman who is in her early 20s. She is adamantly pro-life. She has Spina Bifida, and has been more sheltered than most people who I know. As I was talking with her, it occurred to me that she seems to have very little connection to her own sexuality\womanhood.
And, she does not understand the reality of rape. I find it interesting that she is an avid fan of Law & Order SVU. It's as if she is just an observer when it comes to sexuality, and rape seems normal. The totality of those qualities seem to be similar to the over the hill men making absurd comments.

What to do?

From his letter...

"You assumed that people would understand and accept that being linked to someone like me is an insult"

This is why using the word even to refer back to her is a problem. Most people outside of the disability community are not aware of this. Nor are they aware of the fact that it is a word that has been used in bullying incidents for a very long time. Just some info that explains further why this man wrote this letter.

Free Candy Crowley!

I know a lot of people here dislike CC, but I think as a moderator having the opportunity to ask follow questions gives us an opportunity to get more detail.

Do we understand why the campaigns want Crowley, one of the best political journalists in the business, to be seen but not heard? Absolutely. Is it an absolutely ridiculous request? Absolutely.

While we are all in favor of “regular” people getting to directly question the candidates, the simple fact is that the likelihood is that these questions will be broad rather than narrow — a reality that will allow Obama and Romney to stick with their pre-determined talking points.

The Boss and The Big Dog to stump for Obama

Bruce Springsteen, a supporter of President Obama and Vice President Biden, will appear in the Parma, OH area and Ames, IA on Thursday, October 18. The appearances will be free and open to the public. Specific information including timing and location will be released in the coming days.

“Bruce Springsteen’s values echo what the President and Vice President stand for: hard work, fairness, integrity,” said Jim Messina, Obama-Biden campaign manager. “His appearances will help with our get out the vote effort in these critical swing states and we are thrilled with his ongoing support.”

President Bill Clinton will also join Bruce for his appearance in Ohio. We’ll share additional information as soon as it becomes available.

Romney sounded like a Peacenick in the first part of this speech

He used his gentle bishop language and tone moved on to his aggressive done.
I hope Obama is going to give one of his best here.

Never thought I'd say this but

Claire McCaskill Rocks!!

I was talking with a woman on the bus today about the election and she said that she would probably be on her way to homelessness or serious illness if not for McCaskill.

She lives in a home under sec. 8. Due to a leaky basement, the house was building up mold. It was starting to make her and her kids sick. She talked to the landlord several times and it never went anywhere. Talked with city housing authority personnel and nothing got done.
She called McCaskill's office and Claire jumped on it. She took the city and the landlord on and she is now living happily and comfortably in her home.

Not bad for a blue dog!

My uncle has started referring to Obama as "Heusein"

I guess he thinks he's being clever. I think people got over that one long ago.

Me too!

It showed a well oiled machine. Dod you remember when they walked to capitol hill like protestors?
