Just home from the 99Rise March in Sacramento.

Needless to say, we're exhausted. We took Amtrak up to Sacramento to meet with the marchers for the final rally. We had a really good turnout. People car pooled from San Diego, L.A., the Bay Area, pretty much all over California. The Wolf Pac (TYT) was there, as was Dolores Huerta (UFW), MoveOn, "Fractivists," and others. Sad to say, after marchers walked all the way from L.A. to Sacramento, THEY CLOSED THE CAPITOL building even though it was supposed to stay open until 5:00 so we were barred from entering OUR building. They had the CHP on horseback there, the lookouts on top of the capitol building itself, a pretty good police presence but all was peaceful and people were well behaved. They were planning on staying the night at the Capitol Park but I just heard about an hour ago that the CHP were coming in and threatening to arrest them.

I'll post pictures and some video tomorrow.

ETA: Corrected speeling.

99 Rise on the Move: The Occupation of Sacramento (Truthout article)

Great article about the 99Rise March for Democracy.

<clip>
The 99 Rise California March for Democracy is out to demonstrate that money can be kicked out of politics and ordinary people can make it happen. The march departed Los Angeles on May 17, 2014 and will arrive in the state capital, Sacramento, on June 22 with plans to occupy the Capitol building if their demands are not met. As they march through central California, they combat disempowerment by speaking practically about what can be done to get money out of politics.

As a first step, they demand that the California legislature take three urgent actions:

1. Issue a formal call for a federal Constitutional Convention to propose an amendment outlawing big money corruption by passing Assembly Joint Resolution 1 (AJR1).

2. Give California's voters the chance to formally instruct the US Congress to propose such an amendment and the California legislature to ratify it by passing Senate Bill 1272 (SB1272).

3. Start reining in unlimited, anonymous big money in elections by passing the DISCLOSE Act to require the top donors to be prominently revealed in every political ad they fund.

This was just so special I had to share:

This was a comment on one of our local TV station's website. This is exactly the way it appears on the site, including the poster's screen name.

Rep. McCarthy elected House majority leader; Rep. Scalise becomes whip

Source: Los Angeles Times

House Republicans elected Rep. Kevin McCarthy as their next majority leader Thursday, continuing the Bakersfield congressman's rapid rise through the ranks of congressional leadership..

McCarthy, 49, will be the first Californian and youngest person ever to serve in the House's second-ranking position when he formally assumes the role in July. First elected in 2006, he has served since 2011 as the House majority whip.

His rapid climb is taking place at a time of significant turnover in Congress. McCarthy has served less time in the House than any of the chamber's committee chairs. John A. Boehner (R-Ohio), now speaker of the House, had served for 15 years before he became majority leader in 2006.

He defeated two candidates — Peter Roskam of Illinois, currently the chief deputy whip, and Marlin Stutzman of Indiana.

Three Classes I Proposed for our Local Adult School Were Given the Green Light Today.

I proposed Home Canning and Preserving: Fruits and Vegetables, Jams and Jellies and Tomatoes and Tomato-Based Recipes and all three were Ok'd.

I've been wanting to teach these for years and kept meaning to propose them for our local Adult School. I finally did in March and all three are now a go. It's been a long time since I've been in the classroom and it will be good to teach again. I've missed it. The administrator even suggested some other cooking classes for me to think about but I think I'll tackle these three first.

Anyway, just wanted to share the good news in my little corner of the sandbox. Here's hoping that there will be an interest and that I'll have full classes. *fingers crossed*

So, Mexico v. Brazil ended 0-0

As one who knows absolutely NOTHING about soccer/football -- what happens now? No sudden-death? No extra innings (or whatever they're called). How do they advance to the next level? I'm cornfused. HEP!

One of the Bills calling for a Constitutional Convention

to overturn Citizen's United and McCutcheon passed the State Senate Judiciary committee on Tuesday, June 10th, by a vote of 5 to 2.

http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml

California may very well be the 2nd state (after Vermont), to call for a Constitutional Convention.

Here's video of the hearing on Tuesday. The 99Rise Marchers are still on the road to Sacramento but 3 of them broke away and went ahead to attend the hearing. TYT's Wolf Pac came in in DROVES to support the measure.

New Video from the 99Rise Marchers

This is on Twitter but you don't have to have a Twitter account to watch it (I don't). The gentleman in the middle is Kai Newkirk, one of the organizers, the person on the right is Danielle and the person on the left is Henry.

Please watch if you will (you have to scroll down a bit for the video). They have an important message and they are doing important work. It was 110 degrees in the Valley yesterday and they marched 20 miles. Please consider supporting them I you can.

Pictures of the 99Rise Marchers visit

For those wondering what this is all about:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025062179

They arrive at one of our local parks, hot and tired:

About to take off for the day, marching 20 miles in what would be 110 degree heat! I found out later the gal in the yellow tank top is a journalist for Al Jazeera and is on her way to Dubai this coming Saturday.

Same picture but with some ugly old fat broad that snuck in there:
