Shot In the Face Or Stabbed In the Back?

Who says we don't have a choice in America?

At this point I choose shot in the face. To quote Han Solo, "Bring it on! I prefer a straight fight to all this sneakin' around."

I saw those comments in a Daily Kos Social Security diary. They made this tingle go up my leg and I felt compelled to share the sentiments.

And so it begins...Collins (R-NY) Blasts ‘Chained CPI’ Proposal

Democrats are going to be clobbered for proposing Chained CPI. We tried to warn you.

On the eve of President Obama’s budget presentation, a Western New York Republican joined the AARP in criticizing an expected decrease in the amount paid out in Social Security benefits by restructuring cost of living adjustments. Chris Collins says the move would hurt seniors and veterans.

“If you change the calculation of the consumer price index and how you calculate inflation, that’s going to continue to pinch our seniors who, come the end of the month, the stories I hear, are having trouble putting food on the table,” Collins said.

According to the AARP, changing the way the consumer price index is calculated would cost seniors and veteran pension recipients in Erie County $476 Million in future benefits. An AARP representative told YNN’s Ryan Whalen Tuesday, the “Chained CPI” expected in the President’s budget would hit Erie County harder than originally expected.

“It does not take into account the fixed costs that the seniors or all of us have, such as utilities, your healthcare costs, prescription drugs, gasoline. You can’t make a substitution for those. So that will make it even more difficult, particularly for those who are struggling to begin with,” AARP advocate Dave Hollen said.

The DCCC Expects Democratic Representatives to Fundraise 4 Hours a Day, Every Day

"Welcome to town, new members of Congress. Now hit the phones."

For an incoming member of Congress still basking in the glow of electoral victory, it's a message that hits those in both parties hard -- the most direct indication that time in the people's chamber will be a bit different from the version taught in civics classes.

There are certain expectations of new members of Congress. According to the Democratic Congressional committee, they should prioritize raising money and just help their constituents later on...maybe. Cenk Uygur discusses this and other anti-productive, disheartening aspects of the money in politics problem.

(Lots of quotes from Dem Reps in this video)

The Poor, Poor Rich According To the Wall Street Journal

The Onion couldn't top this. Whether it's the sad faces of all these put-upon dejected rich people, or the elderly minority couple who is depressed despite not paying extra taxes (or was that the point?), or the distressed single Asian lady making $230,000 who might not be able to buy that extra designer pantsuit this year, or the "single mother" making $260,000 whose kids presumably have a deadbeat, indigent dad just like any other poor family, or that struggling family of six making $650,000 including $180,000 of pure passive income and wondering how to make ends meet, mockery is almost superfluous. The thing mocks itself. That $650,000 family in particular is bizarre to the point of incredulity: those people could literally stop working entirely, live extremely well on $180,000 while doing nothing but watching television all day and staying home with their kids, and leave their high-salary jobs with their oh-so-onerous tax requirements to people who actually appreciate them.

Beyond mockery, though, that the Wall Street Journal would even dare publish such a thing without irony is indicative of the reality that the wealthy don't live in the same country as the rest of us. Their experience of life, and therefore of public policy, is on an entirely different plane. These are people who take tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars of yearly passive investment income for granted and think they earned that money, deserving to pay very low taxes on it. They're people who see a single individual making $230,000 as struggling to get by, and severely put upon by the loss of a couple thousand dollars to help pay for decrepit infrastructure and basic healthcare for the indigent.

Fake ads mocking NRA were played on Stephanie Miller's show...Great Laughs

There is a small but growing band of progressives who donate their time, equipment and talents to airing home-based progressive political talk shows on the Internet. One of the stars of this movement is Cleveland-based Ken Picklesimer, Jr. a/k/a Kenny Pick, host of the Turn Up the Night with Kenny Pick show which airs on Tuesdays and Fridays from 7-10 p.m. ET on the USTREAM Radio or Not channel on the web, and on Talk Radio One and Progressive Blend.

Interview with Kenny Pick on DKos

Anyway, Stephanie played two of his recent recordings on her show yesterday and I went in search of them immediately to post here. I wound up tweeting him to ask where I could find them and he kindly uploaded them to his SoundCloud account.

Enjoy! Play button is at the very top of the page.

Nestle Group -"Access to Water Is Not Your Right"

This video is an example (if the close captioning is correct) of the extremist views held by corporations who hold a free market philosophy.

Access to water is not your right
believing you have a right to water - is an extreme belief
Water is a raw material and a "foodstuff" that should be
privatized and commercialized.

This video is an example of the extremist free market philosophy probably held by many of the corporations that belong to the American Legislative Exchange Council - your death means nothing compared to corporate profits. If this guy believes it - other corporations believe this for their raw materials also.

This is the first time I really truly understand what free market means to these people.
Free market means - it is okay for people to DIE as long as corporations can maintain high levels of revenues.

Is Support For Gang Rape in Steubenville, OH Generational? This Tweet Suggests It Is

I've been following the Anonymous KnightSec Twitter account, and they've been posting a lot of information about their rally held in Steubenville, OH yesterday, in support of the victim. As I was scrolling through their Tweets from last night, I came across a copy of this Facebook entry, posted by a woman who wanted to attend the rally but couldn't.

https://twitter.com/KYAnonymous/status/287776950028754944/photo/1

This woman was brave enough to post this testimony on a social website, under her real name, and that gives it a great deal of credibility. She officially made herself a victim coming forward. It suggests gang rape is a long held tradition in Steubenville, OH and I am now thinking it is something being passed down to their sons.

It's time we demand the FBI provide far more than just "technical support" to those who are enabling the tradition. It's time for a full-blown FEDERAL investigation. This girl was lured to the crime and then carried over state lines. WHY haven't the Feds taken control yet?
