Don't you just love it?

Sucking off the system just fine while you're plotting its demise and preaching how horrible and useless and undesirable it is. Lovely.

Surprised to hear he even had one.

Oh well, no more toxic bilge infecting the internet and cable news. The bad guys lost one of their strongest and most aggressive messengers and water-carriers and trouble-makers - and one driven by a FEROCIOUS ego. In an election year, no less. And those struggling in vain to keep breitbart.com or whatever the hell it is alive and kicking because they believe they're on some "righteous" crusade are all pretty flaccid lightweights.

As john boner would say - "so be it."

So they're beginning to feel actual pain. Well boo-hoo.

First thing that came to mind, for me, was - hmmm... this is one way we can fight back and make them hurt, give them another hurdle to jump that they weren't expecting (yeah, sometimes THEY get complacent, too, and they always overreach). Mess with them. Inconvenience them. Bother them with some shitty little details they never expected to have to get mired down into. Throw them off their game. They're used to liberals and progressives just saying "oh, okay..." and bowing and scraping and apologizing, and certainly backing down from going on offense with our strategy and tactics.

So,
A) they suddenly realize they don't have an open road ahead. Now there are obstacles, patrols, impediments, bad pavement, and detours. This was not what they were planning. They thought this'd just keep on sliding in over home plate with nobody noticing. The opposition is NOT asleep at the switch this time, much to their surprise.

and

B) they didn't think they were gonna run low on money! Had NO idea. Nobody saw this coming - guaranteed. Never expected it in a million years! They thought they were invulnerable, AND invisible. They had all these blue-chip sponsors who were fed only the propaganda about public service and meeting challenges and other lofty-sounding PR BS. Nobody bothered to consider the very profound downside of these moves of theirs at the state level, and their cumulative effect because there are frickin' HUNDREDS of them in a few DOZEN states all being rushed, pushed, or slid through all at about the same time!!! And when you start making noise about that, no corporation in their right mind wants too much of that kind of negative PR, even if they believe in what's being done. It makes them look bad and they don't need the bad press or the questioning because it's bad for business. So they pull their support.

And what does that mean? It means that they're gonna have to raise money in other realms than, and well beyond, they were expecting. This might mean that an ad buy will be 50-thousand dollars less in some market because the same donor base had to spread out farther to cover ground that hadn't been anticipated. It might mean three or four or a half-dozen fewer GOTV people in some local areas can be hired because there wasn't enough money - that had to go to ALEC. And meanwhile, what doesn't go to ALEC to make up the difference means maybe there isn't as much oomph to push all of those bills through, or slide them through under the radar. Maybe they won't be able to do anything else in Kansas for awhile. Or South Carolina. Or maybe instead of pushing 20 bills in Texas, they'll only have the funding to promote 13 or 14.

Yeah, I know. It isn't nearly as good or desirable for our country, but every little bit we can erode their power and influence and effectiveness, the better for EVERY American.

Oh yeah, and they're selling it on some breitbart vehicle. Well, with no breitbart around anymore to push this baloney with those obnoxious, rude, loutish bully tactics of his, this effort overall won't go nearly as far.

One word. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It absolutely should be laminated to that smug bastard. Consider, voters of America: this is how he treats the REALLY "least of these" - as in animals being out-ranked by humans, and in romney's case, out-ranked also by STUFF. Things. Suitcases. Supplies. Inanimate objects. STUFF.

If he treats animals that way, especially the supposedly-beloved family dog, imagine how he'll treat others he considers among the out-ranked. YES it goes to character. YES it goes to morals. YES it even goes to more objective ethics. YES you better believe it goes to likeability!!!!

And I say we work it til people start getting Seamus tattoos. We work it til team romney starts choking and gagging and, yes, shitting down the sides of their own cars because of it.

I'd recommend this post a million times if I could!

To add insult to injury, NONE of the fucking panty-waists in bush's regime who pushed hardest for the Iraq war - EVER SERVED, ANYWHERE. Only rummy came close. He served between wars and yes, he wore his country's uniform. But he never saw combat. Everybody else had their convenient excuse - or a rich, prominent, well-connected dad - or both.

I'm glad this is being revisited. It should NEVER be forgotten or swept under the rug. Other people DIED because dubya hung out in Texas or Alabama, getting his dental work handled and sitting around the office bragging about how much he'd had to drink while out boozing the night before, and then left EARLY, some three months I think it was - before his formal time of "service" was concluded.

He squatted in that job in OUR White House for eight years. And he left an unrepentant WAR CRIMINAL.

You bet your sweet ass Dan Rather was correct. We ALL were, who raised objections of any sort to anything these bastards were up to, of which we caught wind. They were able to muzzle him, eventually - a hard-on george senior had against Dan Rather since their live confrontation on the "CBS Evening News" one night. ghwb would have loved nothing more than to destroy him. Well, it took awhile but it kinda worked.

However, they can't muzzle ALL of us, or dictate that we forget. If they do, some of us - as dubya's boss, dick cheney, would say - will have other priorities.

I don't see flippant attitudes here so much as anger and indignation.

You have to take into account a whole boatload of things, like:
-- the increasing frustration over the lack of equal justice for all, just aggravated by a case like this, in which the guilty person is flatly guilty but gets off because the guilty person is lighter-skinned and his/her victim likely wasn't;
-- the utter outrage over the very idea that this kid was unarmed;
-- that zimmerman was clearly told by the 911 dispatcher that they didn't need for him to be pursuing his target. They wanted him NOT to do that and asked him not to, directly. Then he answered them with some version of "okay" or other affirmative acknowledgement. So he lied to them because he had no intention, really, of stopping his pursuit especially when his inner Clint Eastwood was all stirred up - on top of what his deliberate defiance of that clearly-issued directive (he seemed to have understood the language the dispatcher was using that night, too, didn't he?) ultimately put him in a position to do;
-- the infuriating spin machinery on his behalf as relatives and "friends" attempted to color public opinion and embroider on events they did not witness and of which they had no knowledge;
-- the infuriating spin machinery on his behalf as relatives and "friends" attempted to color public opinion and embroider on events they did not witness and of which they had no knowledge - EVEN IN THE FACE OF POLICE PRECINCT VIDEO AND 911 TAPES that tell a different story.

BTW - anyone should understand, coming here to DU, that we here have suffered through various spin machinery since Selection 2000. We haven't been just annoyed, or upset, or confused. We were seriously outraged. Justifiably so, too, imo. And we're BEYOND infuriated when it keeps coming up, to cloud and blur and confuse facts and diffuse or excuse guilt - or make people forget about it or throw up their hands that "oh they all suck, they all do it."

So anyone who picks at that sensitivity is REALLY pushing a button. It's made some of us extraordinarily cynical, and unfortunately that deep, profound cynicism, taught to us and force-fed to us from the highest levels of government and other institutions, seeps in EVERYWHERE. It's like trying to stopper all the little leaks and oozings and bubblings around the La Brea Tar Pits. You almost always see thick, sticky little this's and that's breaking through cracks in the ground or the pavement. It's under pressure from below, and it's never contained for long.

April 17, 2012

Very true! And that means REAL prison reform, that actually addresses some of the problems.

But for the naysayers here - you'd rather he be out walking around, free, swaggering through his neighborhood with his little Wyatt Earp thing? Would you feel safer knowing he's out in the general population and not in custody where he belongs, and being held to account for what he did?

I would not. Vigilante justice doesn't make me feel safer. And if somebody decided to "do us all a favor" if he was out - that, too, would not make me feel safer. It just makes me feel more uncomfortable that more nutcases who shouldn't be armed, are armed, and thinking they're Clint Eastwood.

AND, if you're "sick all the time" like I've heard people say about ann romney -

WHEN, indeed, was it EVER true for her that she was deeply fearful that getting treatment for her illnesses would bankrupt her family? Deny them the college education they were all saving for? Force the foreclosure on their home because the medical bills consumed every last bit of their savings and their income and since she was sick she couldn't work so there went her salary that would have offset some of the logarithmically-increasing expenses.

ann romney didn't have to worry about ANY of that. I'm amazed at how many comments I'm reading, to some of these stories, where women not just here but elsewhere talk about having to go back to work within days of a radical mastectomy, while the wound was still oozing, with no day care, and fearful that her recent illness and hospitalization would result in the cancellation of her insurance policy, or sky-high rate increases that she wouldn't be able to afford?

No ann, I don't have ANY sympathy for you. And I HARDLY think you've EVER been overworked. When you have that kind of cushion to fall back on, where you never feel the hard floor, you should STFU and be DAMN grateful. And maybe tithe more than the minimum.

April 17, 2012

Uh-huh. That's what they're SAYING.

Let's look and watch carefully what they DO. ACTIONS. Not words.

Let's see if they resume the activity, but only under a new name or banner. They'll think up some fancy new label for the same basic committee looking at "voter fraud." They'll just call it something really lofty and innocuous like the "Fairness and Democracy" task force or some such BS. They're not giving up on this, not by a longshot. They recognize that people are watching now, looking over their shoulders, indeed the "shadowy" nature of ALEC underscores what they are. Cockroaches and other vermin that slither out into the open to prey and destroy. Just because you start watching, or turn the lights on, or call the Orkin man, doesn't mean they've stopped OR gone away permanently. They'll just look for some other cover from which to continue operating - where they think maybe you might NOT be looking.

Just always remember what "Mad-Eye Moody" always warned Harry Potter: "CONSTANT VIGILANCE!!!!!" He'd also warn - "you've GOT to KNOW!!!!" Know your enemy. Understand who and what they really are, deep down. And plan - AND act - accordingly. And NEVER EVER EVER let your guard down or think you've won or that it's settled. With this enemy we're up against, it's NEVER over, they NEVER accept defeat, and they NEVER concede that it's settled. And they're gonna keep coming back and keep coming back and keep attacking and keep looking for weaknesses and keep on the lookout for when we drop our guard or get complacent or roll over and go back to sleep (because WE think we've won, or that it's over, or that it IS settled).

Believe me, on issues like this, where their side and their allies all have SO OBSCENELY MUCH to gain by suppressing the vote among targeted groups, they're NOT gonna let this be the last word, and they're NOT gonna give up.

ESPECIALLY when they've gotten this far, and are so close to their ultimate goals on this issue.
