calimary's JournalI wouldn't entertain their feigned sympathy either. UTTERLY MEANINGLESS if they won't do something
about it, once and for all. If they won't stand up and show spine. If they won't do what's good and proper and desperately needed because it might not be politically expedient. Words mean nothing. It's ACTIONS we need to see. I'm totally with this grieving dad. He was beyond eloquent. And he's quite correct: "my son is dead. There's NOTHING that can be worse than that." And it's sad because to the question - "what can they do to him?" - well, I suspect they'll attack him soon enough. GOD FORBID he lead the taking or even regulating of their damn guns. 'Cause we all know that their damn fucking accursed fucking guns are far more important than this guy's dead child - or mine - or yours.
Find Mousie, dear Scat!
Aw, grits, I'm so sorry. Seems like only yesterday Mousie made the jump to light speed, too.
I'm always comforted seeing posts from people who are in mourning. I'm glad they post that here. So many loving, caring, compassionate, sympathetic, and empathetic here. LOTS of big broad pairs of shoulders. I'm glad you posted here. We all kinda grow old together here, sharing triumphs and losses and disappointments, and great hopes and dreams and sorrows and joys. Thank you for sharing your two special critters with us. You do not mourn alone.
I'm another one who's happy you're sticking around, My Dear Peggy!
DU is indeed home - at least for me! I find it tiring to have to face down contrarians. I come here to escape from CONs! I belong here, too, even with trolls popping up from time to time. (AND to collect my weekly share of Sunday LOLcats, too!)
We're all working toward this! Let's hope the Florida ban gets K-O'd.
Followed shortly by an insanely happy wedding celebration for the extended Stryst household!
And just think. You're not merely getting married (although that's quite simply the most wonderful thing). You're also making history.
And welcome to DU to you, too, minivan2!
Great to have you join us! Let's hope it spreads from sea to shining sea and beyond! And don't worry about rick scott. Sounds to me as though he's not long for his job. And for ALL our sakes, including all Floridians, I hope you don't have to suffer this fool for too much longer. Sheesh - WHAT IS IT about these voters, that they think guys like him are the ones to support????? What on EARTH do they think they're gonna get out of it? Anything? Are they just this astoundingly high level of gullible? Has the brainwashing been complete? Has the critical thinking been completely and permanently anesthetized? I don't get it. WHAT ON EARTH is appealing about this man? And I'm not talking about his appearance, either. WHAT is there to like? When I hear him talk, or defend his point, or make speeches, or whatever, over and over again I think - "ICK! How could anybody vote for this guy?"
But they do. Hopefully enough of them will see the light in November that Florida will finally be rescued. That poor state desperately needs to be placed back in Democratic hands.
Well, your thinking certainly has clarity, even if your fingers can't see what they're doing!
Welcome to DU, houston_radical!
WOW!!! FABULOUS post!!! VERY glad you're here! Impressive! And your second-to-last line - PRICELESS!!!!! OMG!!! I'd bet the gun-nuts have no clue about that part!!! "Strict constitutionalists" my ass. Just use the first syllable in "constitutionalists" and you've about pegged it. Just another CON-job...
But I think I understand how some of these folks think. Use a highfalutin' word to throw 'em off. Makes you look smart and makes 'em think you're smart (or, better, smarter than they are). Also, I'm sure they've noticed that when bill o'reilly says "constitutionalist," or even "traditionalist" or the really fun one - "originalist," it sometimes stops his on-air opponent for a moment. It's a mind-fuck. But not one person across the table from him ever makes HIM stop and define what he means by those phrases? And if one IS indeed, an "originalist" or "traditionalist," shouldn't all Second Amendment's references to "arms" refer to the arms known, recognized, and used at the time the document was originated? Wouldn't that be during an era of widespread use of muskets, bayonets, and blunderbuss-style weaponry? So therefore should we not read the strict original sense of the Second Amendment to apply to the owning and using of muskets, bayonets, and blunderbusses (blunderbi?)? Seems to me the Second Amendment covers all things musket/bayonet/blunderbuss - and nothing else.
