The really funny thing is - those even more relieved than we are? The CONS themselves! Because they knew they were gonna be left holding the bag if they managed to see to it that the ACA was torn down, this way. They were gonna be left holding the bag - which had NOTHING in it. NOTHING. They only wanted to see the ACA destroyed, taken down, dismantled, done away with. This bullshit they were flinging about "repeal and replace" - BULLSHIT. PURE BULLSHIT. They were only EVER going to go halfway on that. They were eager to tackle the "repeal" part. Couldn't wait! But the "...and replace" part? Fuck it. There was NEVER any way they were EVER going to find time to get to that part of it. NEVER. Something else was ALWAYS, VERY conveniently, going to get in the way and they were going to be sure NEVER to get for it. They never EVER intended to figure out something to replace the ACA with to help people. Because they don't want to help people. They're the "yer on yer own" party. They're the "Sucks to be You" party. They're the "IGMFU" party - "I Got Mine, F-U."

And the public WAS gonna be screwed and left high and dry. Thrown to the wolves. Just the way the CONS like it. Because when you get down to the basics of it, THEY DON'T WANT TO HELP ANYBODY. And they SURE as hell don't want to HAVE TO help anybody. They don't want to be compelled to have to help somebody. They're the Party of Cain. Cue the WAAAAAAMbulance - "WAH! Am I my brother's keeper? Do I HAVE TO be????? I don't wannna!!!!!"

Glad you're here! This will be a Day of Jubilee here - no better time to weigh in. It's been very contentious at times around DU, now that we're in election season again. But every now and then, we have a REALLY wonderful day here together and united and in lockstep together. Rare, but true! And then we dutifully go back to the herding-cats department.

But, just as reagan did, one of these days he'll be gone, too. He won't live forever either. And we will be RID of HIM, AS WELL!!!!!

When he goes, I won't celebrate - cuz it'll make me feel guilty. But I will be relieved and grateful as all-get-out. I remember when reagan died. I'd come to think of him as perhaps the closest we've come to having, for real, "The Thing That Would Not Die." My first reaction was "he DID? Finally? Thought I'd never live to see the day." Part of me had wondered if maybe this was a man who'd actually made a deal with the Devil - for how many victories he had that were adverse to the general population (especially those in the greatest need). How MANY strokes of luck he had - that wound up screwing the rest of us (except for all his rich business-and-industry friends). How MANY times the the dealer dealt the cards and he just magically got four aces or a royal flush or something - about 90 percent of the time. Luck ALWAYS broke his way. NOBODY gets a track record like that. EVERYTHING went his way. For him and his sneaky scandalous criminal friends and rip-off scammers and trickle-down CON-artists and big-ass industrial polluters and titans of industry grabbing for all the money and benefits and tax cuts on which they could gluttonize themselves. And the rest of us got it in the shorts. He HAD to have made some deal with the Devil, way back whenever. Nobody had luck like that - that I could remember. And as a radio news anchor, I had long since grown tired and fed-up with having to type out (and then read) the words - "thus-n-such will happen if president reagan gets his way" and dammit, it ALWAYS ended up with "president reagan got his way..." FUCK that was a miserable time. Son-of-a-bitch almost ALWAYS got his fucking selfish greedy short-sighted mean-spirited thoughtless damn way.

And for the rest of the day, I listened to the coverage, and I went around all day with a little smile on my face. There was, for me, a sense of relief, deep gratitude, and quiet contentment all day. That was a golden day. That was a quietly spectacular and deeply satisfying day.

I don't know what's made me happier. The fact that this hands yet another defeat to the bad guys (the selfish, greedy, uncompassionate, non-caring, Party-of-Cain types), OR if it's just the mere fact that SCOTUS did this and MILLIONS of Americans will get some HELP! MILLIONS more Americans will get the help they need - FINALLY to be able to afford health insurance, even just FINALLY to be able to afford to go see a doctor! I CANNOT believe it. I'm SO thrilled!!!!

I'm freakin' STUNNED!!!! THRILLED!!!!! And relieved.

We're going to be eligible this year! The open-enrollment program starts again in October here in California. By then, our daughter will be off my insurance because she'll be 26. Our son has his own insurance through his union. And my husband and I can go for joint coverage and save quite a bit of money!

Hmmm... I'm also seeing now that the key piece of the 1968 Fair Housing Act, too. DAYUM! Somebody on the CON side of that bench must be feeling a little guilty these days. Either that, or they're probably sick - just not feeling themselves lately...

I wouldn't start burning incense to nikki haley. Took her five days to get in front of things.

Wednesday night she was crying and bemoaning how horrible the massacre was but wasn't willing to deal with "well, can we take that flag down, NOW?" Took her til Monday to come out with the correct positioning on this. Her FIRST instinct was to tap-dance around it and make excuses about how it's still so meaningful to some people and blah-blah-blah. Same thing with jebbie. Took him all week to fart and fumble around with what should be a pretty simple answer to a pretty straightforward question - would you do Iraq differently than your brother did if you knew now what you knew then? And his FIRST instinct was - "yes I would." Took him til Friday of that week to dance his way toward "no I wouldn't."
