No, Jon Favreau: We Will Not Learn To Love Hillary Clinton

The moment has arrived. That moment when the establishment’s sniggering apologists tell those damn idealists that it is time to get with the program and settle for the latest shabby party product or risk going home empty-handed. Hear the eternal refrain: Don’t make the perfect the enemy of the good.
There has been a slew of these strident come to Jesus jeremiads from the usual suspects after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s win in the New York primary. But the latest sermon on submitting to destiny from former Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau both perfectly encapsulates the mindless DNC Hillary Clinton Campaign talking points, while attempting to provide a how do you do fellow kids credibility because he was part of the 2008 primary fight against Hillary Clinton.
See? Even former rivals for power with future career interests tied to the Democratic Party support Hillary Clinton, you guys.
The substance of the screed is as tired as it is tiresome. Favreau makes a number of claims that fail basic scrutiny when he counsels supporters of Senator Bernie Sanders, or “Berniacs” as they are called by The Daily Beast. For instance:
The problem, of course, is not that Hillary Clinton is not taking progressive positions. The problem is that, given her record, the best analysis of her policy platform is that she is lying about those positions. Now, lying is a strong word and given her profession (politician) let us use a nicer word, bullshitting. Hillary Clinton is bullshitting people on what she will do in office and a large slice of the Democratic Party base knows it.
Favreau supports his previous point by claiming Sanders supporters should essentially declare victory because “Guess what? Bernie Sanders helped make that happen. He helped push Hillary Clinton to the left. And he should keep pushing her if she becomes president.”
Guess what? She’s bullshitting and even her most ardent supporters acknowledge she plans to move rightward for the general election. So, no, she has not been pushed anywhere, she is just saying what she thinks Democratic primary voters want to hear, just as she will change the tune and say what she thinks 51% of the general electorate wants to hear should she become the party’s nominee. That’s not taking a progressive position, Jon, that’s pretending to take progressive position.

Calling New York City’s Board of Elections (BOE) “outdated,” Mayor Bill de Blasio rolled out a list of proposed reforms on Monday. The action follows reports of polling site chaos and widespread voter disenfranchisement during last week’s Primary Election.
The mayor also announced that he will make $20 million available to carry out the reforms – but only if the BOE signs a binding agreement by June 1 to implement them.
De Blasio’s proposals include hiring an outside operations consultant, empaneling a blue-ribbon commission to “identify failures,” improving poll worker training, and providing new email and text notifications for voters.

“The Board of Elections is an outdated organization in dire need of modernization – and we need to make these changes now. We cannot allow a single voter to be disenfranchised because of the Board of Elections’ outdated operations,” de Blasio said in a statement.
More than 125,000 Brooklyn residents were left off the voters registration list this year, according to NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer. Stringer, who announced last Tuesday an audit of BOE’s operations and management, cited reports of closed polling sites, faulty ballot scanners, misleading voting site notifications and other voting irregularities.
“It is clear that we have a broken voting system in New York City,” Stringer said on Monday. “What we need is state legislation to reform the Board of Elections and install a professional, non-partisan board of directors.”

"Wide-spread voter disenfranchisement like we saw last week is unacceptable,” City Councilmember Brad Lander said in a statement. Lander said that the reforms would “create a Board of Elections New Yorkers can trust again.”
The reforms were backed by representatives of a number of groups, including Common Cause/NY, the New York Public Interest Research Group and the New York Immigration Coalition.

New Push for Military Intervention in Libya: Who Will Control the Libyan Central Bank?

There is intense push for the NATO countries to make an overt intervention in Libya. In this moment, the justification is to fight the Islamic State and to prevent terror from spreading across the Mediterranean to Europe. As is the case in matters of the destruction of African societies, the governments of Britain and France are in the forefront of the push for the latest intervention. Germany does not want to be left out so the German state is now actively working for the UN intervention.
Prior to this spring, it had been difficult to get the legal cover for a bigger military intervention by the West, but now there is supposed to be a new ‘unity’ government with the mandate to call for the United Nations to militarily intervene. Every week there is a new meeting in Europe to push for intervention with no consultation with the African Union. In January, the African Union appointed former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete its new special envoy to Libya. Thus far, all of the reports and discussions about a new UN sanctioned intervention have excluded the interests of the peoples of Libya and Africa. Progressive forces in the world need to stay alert on this new effort to intensify the militarization of North Africa and oppose the governments who are using the question of ISIS to make another push to control the resources of Libya and Africa.
The real reasons for the intervention in Libya
The emails of the former Secretary of State and current Presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton exposed to the world the principal reasons for the NATO intervention and destruction of Libya in 2011. We are informed by one writer who had examined these emails on the traffic between the USA and France over the imperatives for intervening in Libya.
In one e mail dated April 2, 2011 Sidney Blumenthal, then an aide to Clinton informed her ‘that sources close to one of Gaddafi sons were reporting that “Qaddafi’s government holds 143 tons of gold, and a similar amount in silver” and the hoard had been moved from the Libyan Central Bank in Tripoli closer to the border with Niger and Chad. “This gold was accumulated prior to the current rebellion and was intended to be used to establish a pan-African currency based on the Libyan golden Dinar. This plan was designed to provide the Francophone African Countries with an alternative to the French franc (CFA).”Blumenthal then added that “According to knowledgeable individuals, this quantity of gold and silver is valued at more than $7 billion. French intelligence officers discovered this plan shortly after the current rebellion began, and this was one of the factors that influenced President Nicolas Sarkozy’s decision to commit France to the attack on Libya.” The email added: “According to these individuals, Sarkozy’s plans are driven by the following issues:
1 A desire to gain a greater share of Libya oil production,
2 Increase French influence in North Africa,
3 Improve his internal political situation in France,
4 Provide the French military with an opportunity to reassert its position in the world,
5 Address the concern of his advisors over Qaddafi’s long term plans to supplant France as the dominant power in Francophone Africa.”
France and Germany are not only interested in the vast oil and gas resources under Libya but also the vast ocean of water under the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System (NSAS ).. With the advances in solar technology the European states want to have control over the Sahara for the future transformation of solar power for European consumers. It is the vast resources of Libya which is still on the line as there is this new push for the UN to intervene in Libya. As the senior imperialist state in Europe prior to 1945, Britain had extensive interests in Libya but the threats of the African Union to develop an African Monetary Fund and a Common Currency is a direct threat to the future of French economic interests in Africa .
In the past forty years the Germans had relegated the job of the Gendarme of Europe to France, but with the delicacy of the bank and financial crisis in Europe, the Germans do not want to be left behind. Hence, in the new pressures to intervene the Germans are toe to toe with France and last week when the French foreign minister, Jean-Marc Ayrault visited Tripoli, he was accompanied by the German Foreign Minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier. This was a desperate effort to convey legitimacy on Fayyez Sarraj, newly installed Prime Minister of Libya, and members of the Presidency Council.

Bernie Sanders brings his campaign to Baltimore with Ben Jealous and Danny Glover
BALTIMORE (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders brings his campaign to Baltimore.
Sanders will host a rally Saturday afternoon at Royal Farms Arena. The event was originally planned for Druid Hill Park, but predictions of rain prompted the change.
Ben Jealous, the former head of the NAACP, and actor Danny Glover will also appear.
Then on Saturday evening, Sanders will take part in a “Community Conversation on Young Men of Color.” Jealous, Glover and the Rev. Jamal Bryant will also participate in the event at the Memorial Church of God in Christ in Baltimore.
He’ll also campaign Saturday afternoon in Wilmington, Delaware. Both Maryland and Delaware have presidential primaries Tuesday.
