Cornel West, the Ivy League academic and progressive activist mounting a third-party campaign for president, has chosen former Green Party candidate Jill Stein to help him challenge to President Joe Biden from the left.

Stein said Wednesday that she’s serving as the “interim coordinator” for the West campaign, a catch-all role that encompasses fundraising, communications and campaign management until West can build a more traditional campaign.

“I’m just thrilled and delighted to have such an eloquent and accomplished voice as Cornel West advancing our agenda,” she said. “His vision is really made for this moment. There are so many people who are hurting and are locked out and feel that they’ve been left out of our political system.”

2016 called, and it wants its magical thinking back.

For the love of God, don't imagine this will be easy. Don't fall victim to the same seductive pull of "The X case/charges/investigation/indictment will finally take Trump out.

None of this makes him less likely to win the GOP nomination, and in some ways makes him more formidable for 2024 against Biden.

There's no substitute for doing the hard lifting of the campaign, of unifying the pro-democracy movement behind Biden, of working smart valences with persuadable GOPers (it's a small, but vital segment we at @ProjectLincoln moved in 2020 and 2022), and caving Trump's head in every single day.
The GOP primary is the press trying to make a horserace out of horseshit and Jeff Roe scamming Ron for $200 million. The rest is all noise.

Work for Trump's final defeat, and break the crapulous, violent, low movement he leads.
Don't count on miracles.

. . .former federal prosecutors and seasoned defense attorneys have this blunt advice: consider trying Trump elsewhere. South Florida, they say, is a hard place to get federal convictions against political figures and celebrities.

“I would absolutely try this case in Washington D.C.,” said Richard Gregorie, a former federal prosecutor in Miami who noted that Trump has far more support in South Florida than in the nation’s liberal capital city.

“People who operate in D.C. have no idea what it’s like down here. Prosecuting politicians is hard here,” he added. “The people are just suspicious of government all over South Florida.”

“Forget documents, if Trump shot someone on Calle Ocho, a Miami jury would find him not guilty,” said David Oscar Markus, a top criminal defense attorney who successfully defended former Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum in his corruption trial May 4.
