I can't help feeling guilty this morning. I woke next to the open bedroom window
hearing birdsong---the sweet liquid rasp of the redwing blackbird, the "purdy, purdy" of cardinals, the melodious wrens that never cease to amaze.
I threw on a robe and took a mug of fresh coffee to a lawn chair on our deck and looked---really looked---at the rising sun, the budding trees, the green grass, blue sky and a scud of high white clouds drifting north. It was all so beautiful---to me, at least---that I could hardly take it all in. And then, I remembered Ukraine and I wept.
Wishing, hoping, praying that I could somehow erase the horror of the gruesome slaughter of innocents taking place there seems so transparently useless that it shames me. I have so much; I have such puny concerns.
Today, I will try to be more appreciative of the privilege that is mine only by accident of birth. I will try to be what the warmongers are not: kind and tolerant and generous.
Somehow, I think I will still feel guilty.
Just more dawn ramblings of an ancient soul.
Possibly why we haven't heard from McCarthy in 24 hours----

The way I heard it, the advance of a company of Russian soldiers was being hampered by
a Ukrainian pouring rifle fire from a small bombed-out building.
"Who will get rid of this pest?" the Russian captain asked, and soon an eager volunteer snuck up on the building and rushed inside. A single shot was heard and the captain smiled, assuming the Ukrainian was dead. But, the Russian volunteer did not return and rifle fire at the company resumed.
The captain sent two more volunteers to kill the Ukrainian and this time there were several shots and some screaming, but the volunteers never returned.
Enraged, the captain hand-picked an eight-man squad and ordered them to annihilate the Ukrainian. They charged into the house and, after a couple of minutes of shooting and hideous wailing----the rifle shots again began peppering the Russians.
In shock, the apoplectic captain sent an entire platoon after the Ukrainian sniper. Mayhem ensued inside the wrecked building---dozens of gunshots and screams until finally, one seriously injured Russian was seen crawling back toward the captain while mumbling something. When he was nearly all the way back to safety, he raised his head one last time and---wild-eyed---croaked "Go back! Go back! There's TWO of them!"
To quote a DU pillar, this morning's revelations about McCarthy and McConnell wanting Trump
to either resign or be removed immediately after January 6th makes one thing "pellucidly clear":
---the instrument has yet to be invented that could measure either the hypocrisy or the cowardice of those who call themselves "Republicans".
Is there anyone who does more to educate knuckleheads like me on such a wide variety of
topics than Judi Lynn?

Dear Governor DeSantis: I am sure some of fellow Klans----er----Republicans keep an eye on this
board which just wallows in "wokeness", so I'm confident this will get to you. I have a suggestion.
While your efforts to prohibit most any discussion of Soros-inspired notions like racism and homosex and global climate change and that whole "get a jab or you're gonna die" nonsense, it doesn't go quite far enough. What you need is a "Ministry of Truth"!
Catchy name, isn't it? Made it up myself! It works like this: you simply make it a crime---with nasty painful punishments, of course---for anyone to speak a supposed "truth" that has not been cleared with your state Ministry. Simply stated, just take total control of what is true and what is not.
Why should teachers and professors and local elected officials have the right to say what is true? They may be educated, but some of them are liberals, some fly coach and some aren't even---you know---white!
Well, that's my original idea and you are welcome to it. You can even use the original name I thought up my own self. Of course, you're going to need a Director of this Ministry of Truth and such an important post would naturally pay a hefty salary and since it WAS my idea---well, you see who the obvious choice would be, amiright?
Remember back in 2004 when Dick Cheney told Pat Leahy "Go fuck yourself!" on the floor
of the Senate? I think maybe the GOP rank and file thought he was instructing THEM.
They do that every time they vote Republican.
