That quote came to mind as I listened to news reports of white senior retirees finally turning against Trump.
They were OK with his white supremacy and his misogyny and his religious bigotry because, for the most part, these attitudes did not impact them.
They willingly overlooked his history of adultery, sexual assault and lying because their investments were doing well.
They mostly ignored his homophobia because they were mostly straight.
In short, this cohort "had theirs"--- or so they thought.
But now, with a deadly virus rampaging through the land that is especially deadly in their age group, they have turned to THEIR government headed by the man THEY voted for only to find that he literally does not care if they live or die AND his gross incompetence has decimated some of their investments and injected financial insecurity into their carefully planned retirements.
And, they're surprised.
Dave coulda told 'em: if he was rude to people of color, women, muslims and the LGBTQ folks, he was not a nice person.
Vote for nice. Vote for Joe.

A TV reporter with cameraman was recently permitted to suit up and go inside an ICU full of Covid patients in either Texas or Arizona. As I watched, a several-person team was replacing a clogged oxygen tube in the lungs of a patient on a ventilator whose face was obscured. As the existing clogged tube was withdrawn, you could see that it was obstructed by a God-awful mixture of blood, mucus and who knows what else. The mixture not only clogged the inside of the tube, it clung to the outside and perhaps doubled the diameter of the last six to eight inches of the tube. It was pinkish-orange in color.
That video clip---plus maybe some autopsy photos of "concrete" lungs---should be shown each time Trump or one of his sycophants tries to minimize the seriousness of the Corona virus. This would be stomach-churning and disgusting, but damn it, so is the disease! It is horrible. It is painful. It is frightening. And, yes, it is disgusting.
Public attitudes shifted when the plane-loads of flag-draped aluminum coffins were shown returning to Dover from the Middle East during Bush's war. The anti-mask crowd and the willfully ignorant should have to confront the predictable consequences of their selfish idiocy.
And, if it ruins their appetite---GOOD!
A reminder: why just seeing Trump's face or hearing his voice spikes our blood pressure---

What year was it that the plain old flu killed 130,000 Americans in six months? Surely some
of the anti-mask screamers can tell us.

It seems we have a very nasty, loud and ignorant basket of Deplorables who love to scream at
local government officials that "By God!" NO ONE is gonna make them wear a face mask.
(As an aside, the adjective "local" has become unnecessary when used in front of "government". "Local" is now the only government we have.)
These brainless tools insist that their "rights" would be violated and their "liberty" infringed by a mask requirement and that "the government has no business" weighing in on such a "personal decision".
A few questions for these children:
If your family is T-boned by a drunk who ran a red light, is it "ok" if the drunk insists it is his "right" to drive drunk and that "the government has no business" telling him where to stop?
Is it ok with you if the man who lives next door to your grandkids' daycare playground claims a "right" to let his pair of Bengal tigers out to frolic in his unfenced yard?
If the nursing home where your parent or grandparent resides hires unlicensed nurses, addicts and felons to staff the place, is it the "government's business" to shut them down?
Some people believe it should be their "personal decision" which side of the highway they drive on, whether they can cook meth in your apartment building and how young their sexual partners are. Are you one of them?
Wear a damn mask and stop whining about it or we are going to tattoo "I'm a big ol' DUMBASS!" on your forehead!
