Atticus
Atticus's JournalAs long as we're getting rid of statues of notorious racists, why ignore the bust of
Rush Limbaugh located in the Hall of Famous Missourians in Jefferson City? It is protected by a dedicated camera and baton-wielding taxpayer funded guards, almost like they are expecting someone to recycle a six-pack on ol' Rush.
What a disappointment! I understood that Donald Trump Jr would be on TV with "Trigger",
so I tuned in.
But, he only had the back half of Roy Roger's horse on his program!
Rim shot, please, professor!
Any effort to restore this nation's reputation which does not feature Trump's imprisonment
for his crimes in office is doomed to failure.
In our fear and desperation to craft some remedy---some solution---for the daily failures of our
government, we keep bumping into the same elephant in the room: Trump is a monster.
Until that elephant is removed---by whatever means---there will not be enough room for democratic governance.
Does anyone else listening to snippets from Bolton's book feel the sudden urge for a
long hot shower?
Please name three of Trump's advisors or cabinet members who could NOT be indicted
for some crime by a legitimate competent prosecutor.
I'll wait.
To the Republicans always asking "Where will we get the money?" whenever social programs
are proposed, may I recommend ""Sutton's Law"? Not an actual statute, the "law" was named after lifelong bank robber Willie Sutton who, when asked why he robbed banks replied "BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE THE MONEY IS".
So, if a senator or representative was searching for a source of tax revenue to pay for things like Corona virus testing, PPEs, economic stimulus payments, etc., it would make one whole hell of a lot more sense to raise taxes on hundreds of billionaires who already have all the private jets they need or on millions of working class families struggling to pay the rent, put food on the table and shoes on their kids.
Willie may have been a crook, but he never robbed poor people.
Not everyone had the parents I had. Not everyone had the wonderful teachers I had.
Not everyone, therefore, can feel the impulse for violent retribution against Trump and his fascist disciples that I feel and---let it go. I will not become that which I despise.
But, some may feel what I feel and nurse the feeling. After repeated outrages that seem to go totally unpunished, some may get to the point where that final cog clicks into place and they decide that retribution is right and moral and justified. They may feel that violence is justified because "this is war" and the other side has not been reluctant to incite and condone the assaults and killings by their "militias", ad hoc and official. They may conclude that violence is the only way to defeat the thugs now in power.
But, we will defeat the "forces of darkness" with hard work and ballots and we will get our retribution in the courts of law and the court of public opinion. And, we, the victors, will write the history books that will make names like Trump and Barr and McConnell the equivalent of Arnold and Cohn and McCarthy.
I do understand the desire to---in plain words---smack the livin' shit out of Donald and his entourage of smarmy ass-kissers. But, our country needs us to be better than that.
Welcome to my world.
There are two routes I can take to get to the closest town. Both begin by passing a neighbor's sign which advocates that all Illinois counties EXCEPT Cook (Chicago) secede from Illinois and form a new "more conservative" state.
Beyond that neighbor, one route takes me past one Trump/Pence yard sign before another neighbor's large "TRUMP 2020" flag flutters just below his US flag on his roadside flagpole.
The other route features a pair of professionally printed yard signs not more than four feet from the pavement in the same classy guy's yard. One says "Pritzker Sucks!" while the other screams "PRICKSTER SUCKS!"
These are just a few examples of why this small-town guy has stopped waving at his neighbors as he passes. It is often all I can do to keep from displaying the "universal gesture of disdain".
