I post this not because I think anyone really cares or can offer any real remedy, but I am

in one of those "Is this really happening?" moods.

I am not flummoxed by just one current disgusting outrage: today, the whole damn shebang we call "the way things are" seems more like an acid-trip than anything resembling normalcy.

To be concise:

Donald Trump is STILL favored to be the Republican presidential candidate in 2024? How twisted and vile does one have to be to vote for this moral pygmy?

The only distinction that will be recorded on Kevin McCarthy's record will be "First invertebrate political eunuch to serve as House Speaker". "If at first you don't succeed, ------ try 14 more times!"

Marjorie. Taylor. - Greene. This thing that apparently is the "darling" of the MAGA/QANON/WHITE SUPREMACIST/CHRISTIAN NATIONALIST wing of the Republican Party---constituting about 95% of the current Grand Old Party--- is in an entirely new category of "offensive head case". I omit specific outrages attributable to her, not because I can't think of any, but because there are SO MANY that most here have already heard about in sickening detail. That she is at liberty to walk among us is distressing, but the fact that she is STILL in Congress is------i'm sorry. "Obscene" is the best I can come up with.

Yeah, I could go on, but that should serve to outline the scummy mental cesspool that I seem to be sinking into.

If these creatures can be given power over my life and the impassioned respect of millions around me----- why pretend that I am relevant any longer?

At about age six, I asked my Adlai Stevenson-loving Mom: "What's the difference between

Democrats and Republicans?" Here's her answer (paraphrased, of course, but essentially accurate):

"The simple answer is that the Democrats are for us poor people and the Republicans are for the rich. But, now, some good rich folks are Democrats and some misguided poor folks are Republicans.

If a person is greedy and does not care about others, they're most likely a Republican, no matter what size their house is or what car they drive, if any.

If a person is generous and kind and helps those who need it, they are probably a Democrat, once again--- no matter what size their house is or if they even own a car.

Democrats believe we're all equal. Republicans think they're better than most.

That's why your Dad and I are Democrats. Understand?"

ME: "Yup! I'm a Democrat, too, Mom!"

Have been ever since.

You can dress it up any way you care to and give lengthy "explanations" for the fragile condition

of our democracy, but what it boils down to is that we allowed a spoiled-rotten brat---a man-child---to seize the spotlight in our daily lives and then throw a vicious tantrum when he was pushed off stage.

He's now writhing on the floor---kicking and screaming with a very full diaper.

"Daddy, what's a poet?" asked the youngster of his Pap

The man looked down, then motioned and said "Come sit on my lap
There used to be these people who saw things most could not see
They used their words to reach into the hearts of you and me
And, often, when we read the words that they'd torn from their soul,
We, too, could feel what they felt and that somehow made us whole.
Perhaps but for a moment, still, the heartswell lingered on
And, sometimes, in our darkest night the poet showed us dawn.
So, now you know what poets were and why they are no more.
They dealt in truth and beauty, but it's power we adore."

"I understand" the child said, "I'm glad you told me, Dad.
But, I don't feel any smarter. Somehow, I just feel ---- sad."

As I disgustedly watch "Republicans" nearly soil themselves as they try mightily to avoid saying

anything critical of Trump, I am reminded of what such people were called on the playgrounds I grew up on:

"CHICKENSHITS".

But, I'm an adult now, so I won't be so vulgar and nasty.

I have never been a Bud Light drinker, but I will pick up a six or twelve-pack the next time

shop for adult beverages.

Addendum: having read and considered the contrary views of several DUers, some of whom I respect, I will NOT be purchasing Anheuser-Busch products.

When you are tempted to think of Mitch McConnell as anything less than a fascist enabler,

please remember that it was he who used the "nuclear option" to assist the confirmation of the estimable Judge Kaczmarek, the vile mean-spirited nasty bigoted misogynist trying to outlaw Mifepristone as an option for women.

Why should Clarence Thomas resign just because he has pretty clearly committed gross violations

of the financial reporting requirements of the meager "ethics" rules applicable to "ALL" federal employees and apparently VIOLATED FEDERAL LAW?

Trump did not resign.

Barr did not resign.

Taylor-Greene has not resigned.

Hawley, Cruz, Gosar , Gaetz, Biggs, Boebert --- and so on, ad nauseum--- have not resigned.

So, expect Clarence's response to demands for him to resign to be a rather indignant "WHY SHOULD I? I'M A REPUBLICAN!"

"How dare we" prosecute Trump? How dare we NOT?

Any MAGA jerk who wants to get all pissy-faced about the AUDACITY of the "woke liberal Soros puppets" who are PERSECUTING "poor Mr. Trump" just because he's a "conservative", should have an irate and informed Democrat IN THEIR FACE with a list of his obvious crimes plus his ADMISSIONS to several of them.

To remain silent when someone is spewing this whiny-assed bullshit is to be complicit. We know better; we need to say better!

It's this simple: it's him or us.

I believe he WILL pay a price for his vile crimes against us, but while the "wheels of justice grind slowly", I will not abide faux-indignant fascists peddling crocodile tears and saccharine sympathy.
