Baltimore police district commander shoots man in Morrell Park - (Improved Policing)

Will at least this time the Officer Involved did not pump 6 more shots into him while he lay on the ground to make sure he was dead

Baltimore police district commander shoots man in Morrell Park

A commander of the Baltimore police department's Southwest District shot a man in the leg in the Morrell Park neighborhood on Monday night, police said..

Police on Tuesday morning identified the officer as Major Byron Conaway, a district commander and a 16-year-veteran of the department. He will be placed on routine administrative duties.

It's unclear why Conaway stopped the man, police said. The man refused to show the officer his hands on command, and he fired once, striking him in the leg, police said. The wound is nonfatal, police said. No weapon was found on the man, police said.

Ronald Birmingham, 41, said the victim was his brother, John Joseph Rau, 40. He said Rau had just stopped by Birmingham's porch a block away for a cigarette before he was shot.

"He got up off the steps, he walked up the street. There was a crowd coming down the street, the officer jumped out and told my brother to put his hands up," Birmingham said. "He put his hands up, and he shot him."

Economic Collapse Will Limit Climate Change, Predicts Climate Scientist

Economic Collapse Will Limit Climate Change, Predicts Climate Scientist

A World Bank report, authored by climate scientists of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, and released in late 2014, drew on 1,300 publications and concluded: "There is a considerable likelihood of warming reaching 4°C above pre-industrial levels within this century"

"Crop yields are expected to decline by 30 percent with 1.5-2°C warming and up to 60 percent with 3-4°C warming."

Marginal rain-fed cropland will be abandoned or transformed into grazing land. Current grazing land may become unsuitable for any agricultural activity.

With a 4°C average world temperature, in parts of Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Iraq mean summer temperatures are expected to be up to 8°C warmer, and in the 2071-2099 period, by 2100 65% of summer months will see unprecedented heat extremes, and by 2100, percentages rises to 80%.

World loses trillions of dollars worth of nature's benefits each year due to land degradation

World loses trillions of dollars worth of nature's benefits each year due to land degradation

Furthermore, the problem threatens to force the migration of millions of people from affected areas. An estimated 50 million people may be forced to seek new homes and livelihoods within 10 years. That many migrants assembled would constitute the world's 28th largest country by population.

Some 52% of world agricultural land is moderately or severely degraded, the report says

For example, soil is second only to oceans as the planet's largest carbon sink, while agriculture and land use changes represent the second largest source of greenhouse gas emissions. Addressing land degradation and its causes, therefore, represents a double-sided way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the report says.

Global overpopulation would ‘withstand war, disasters and disease’

Global overpopulation would ‘withstand war, disasters and disease’

The pace of population growth is so quick that even draconian restrictions of childbirth, pandemics or a third world war would still leave the world with too many people for the planet to sustain, according to a study.

Rather than reducing the number of people, cutting the consumption of natural resources and enhanced recycling would have a better chance of achieving effective sustainability gains in the next 85 years, said the report published in the proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

“We were surprised that a five-year WW3 scenario, mimicking the same proportion of people killed in the first and second world wars combined, barely registered a blip on the human population trajectory this century,” said Prof Barry Brook, who co-led the study at the University of Adelaide, in Australia.

“Global population has risen so fast over the past century that roughly 14% of all the human beings that have ever existed are still alive today. That’s a sobering statistic. This is considered unsustainable for a range of reasons, not least being able to feed everyone as well as the impact on the climate and environment,” said co-author Prof Corey Bradshaw, also from the University of Adelaide.

The Myth of Overpopulation - (Good Laugh)

This is from the American Thinker and actually from the Anti-Choice crowd but I thought DU might enjoy a good laugh about now

The Myth of Overpopulation

One of the frequent cries of many on the left is that the world is overpopulated. The latest hysterical outburst on this matter came from Sir David Attenborough, a recent patron of "The Optimum Population Trust." The 86-year-old Attenborough, who has a degree in natural sciences and is a former senior manager of the BBC, is a high priest among earth-worshiping liberals.

Nothing could be farther from the truth. When it comes to "sheer space" and "places to grow food," we have barely touched what the earth has available. Given that the earth contains just north of 7 billion people, the entire population of the planet could easily fit into the state of Texas, which contains less than 0.14% of the earth's land area.

http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2013/02/the_myth_of_overpopulation.html

and of course the science to back up their claim is the "Population Research Institute" https://www.pop.org/

The Population Research Institute (PRI) is a non-profit organization based in Front Royal, Virginia, USA. PRI describes itself as "a non-profit research and educational organization dedicated to objectively presenting the truth about population-related issues." It operates programs against contraception and abortion. PRI is a 501(c)(3) organization. The organization claims field teams and contacts in over 30 countries that monitor family planning campaigns

Police Brutality California: It Takes 9 Stockton Officers To Arrest 1 Teen For Jaywalking [VIDEO]

Police Brutality California: It Takes 9 Stockton Officers To Arrest 1 Teen For Jaywalking [VIDEO]

A jaywalking arrest attempt by police in the California city of Stockton escalated to the use of force on a black teenager. Video posted Wednesday to YouTube shows a Stockton police officer hitting the teen several times with his baton before several other officers get involved.

Witnesses told a Russia Today reporter that the unidentified cop was telling the teenager to sit down -- possibly to write him a ticket for improperly crossing the street to catch a city bus. But when the teenager continued walking to his bus, the officer grabbed him and took out his baton.

The footage begins with the officer restraining the young man and then starting to beat the teenager with a baton. “It’s a [expletive] kid!” a woman watching the encounter shouted to the officer, as a group of onlookers gathered. “Get off him! He’s been jaywalking! Leave him alone, he didn’t do anything wrong!”

Video Shows Texas Police Shoot Man With His Hands Up

After a tense confrontation Friday, sheriff’s deputies responding to a domestic disturbance near San Antonio shot and killed a man seconds after he appeared to raise his hands in surrender.

Video recorded by a student named Michael Thomas and aired in part by a local ABC News affiliate shows a pair of deputies and a shirtless man moving about the front yard of a home in Bexar County, Texas. Thomas was too far away for his camera to pick up any of what was said between the three men. KSAT12 News decided to freeze the video just before the deputies fired two fatal shots.

Law enforcement officials say the deputies made multiple attempts to subdue the man using tasers and riot shields but were unsuccessful. The officials said deputies arrived on the scene to find a woman bleeding from her head and “holding a baby who appeared to possibly have been injured,” KSAT12 reports.

The video shows the three men striding back and forth in front of a home, the shirtless man occasionally disappearing from view behind a parked law enforcement vehicle. The three then stop in a loose triangle formation, and the shirtless man raises his hands above his head. At this point, the news station freezes the video, but two faint gunshots are audible in the video package it aired on Friday evening.

New Jersey Cop Shoots Unarmed Teen Seven Times as Gun Mysteriously Appears on Scene Following Day

New Jersey Cop Shoots Unarmed Teen Seven Times as Gun Mysteriously Appears on Scene Following Day

On Friday evening, a New Jersey State Trooper fired 10 rounds of gunfire at a 14-year-old boy, seven of which hit the child.

Now, witnesses, including one who works in law enforcement, are questioning the official story.

Police shot the young teen, Radazz Hearns, in the legs and buttocks around 10:20 p.m. during a short foot chase. Cops were on the scene responding to a report of gunfire in the area.

The department claimed that a weapon was found at the scene of the incident, but did not specify if the child actually had possession of the gun at any time. What is even stranger, is that no weapon was found at the scene Friday evening, only mysteriously appearing in the middle of the street near an intersection the following day.
