So, I'm listening to BBC talking about a bunch of women...

First, a huge boxing match setting Garden records with two women coming close in points and one of the better boxing matches of the decade. There will be a rematch.

That was about two minutes, and I don't even care about two heavyweights beating the shit out of each other, much less two women. This modern version of gladiator battles talks a big deal about the health of the participants, but the audience still wants blood.

After that was a good half hour about Four Daughters Farm in Australia. The Four Daughters (and there's a lot more family involved) are in their 20s and maybe 30s and actually love the ranch life. Managing thousands of head of cattle and millions of Aussie dollars in equipment, they tried the city for a while but hated it. One actually said somebody has to shovel the cowshit, and she would happily be in line. (if she had to...)

The 4 Daughters piece was actually inspiring-- the girls were brought up on the farm while nothing seems to go your way in farming, they love it and had a great outlook. I don't doubt that if someone looks they'll find similar operations here in the US, and around the world.

How dare he brag about avaccine he had almost..

nothing to do with.

A vaccine that was an outgrowth of SARS and other antivirus work done for years.

A vaccine he did his damndest to get us to ignore.

A vaccine he disparaged for a disease he said either didn't exist or wasn't so bad.

Cops let a deli owner go after a drunken-driving crash. He got back behind the wheel and died at 100

This is an old story, from 2013, but seems the investigation may be ramping up.

https://tv.newsday.com/watch/long-island/investigations/suffolk-police-peter-fedden-crash-md94u7lr#utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=NewsdayTV&lctg=488b6daefdbcbb1944bac96b064b714fa6338a408e28ac9690ba176d08ace1&utm_term=non

If the link doesn't work, 29 year-old Fedden bought the deli and was busted for drunken driving. Allowed by the cop to "go home and sleep it off" he sped up and killed himself in a big crash later that night.

Turns out that he fed the cops breakfast in his deli.

I came across this superb (if a liitle lengthy) speech by MI...

state senator after accusation by R that she's pedophile. We need more of this. A lot more. Just cut them off at the knees.

It seems this has made the rounds already. Here's CNN's Don Lemonv bit:

I finished Maus about a half hour ago, and it is awesome. Started out slowly, like any toon...

magazine, but soon enough I was right there in the middle of the pogrom. I felt the fear, the tightened net, and the mindlessness of the slaughter. Mostly I felt the fear of the future even as the Allies and Soviets killed off the Nazis, closed Auschwitz, and the family moved to Elmhurst.

Cruelty for its own sake is a human invention, but the automation of cruelty takes it a step further. I know of ancestors who helped with the Underground Railroad years ago and immediately saw parallels when the family hid in the coal pits and garbage dumps waiting for an uncertain freedom.

There is always a cry of "Never again", but there is still always another time, again.

So, if this clown actually buys Twitter, or at least a..

controlling interest, how difficult would it be for Tweeters to find another forum?

Remember MySpace? AOL amd Compuserve forums?

A little more about Boehlert's passing...

Just went through a huge thread with a lot of arguing, and many assumptions. Lots of other threads, so it's ok to skip this one.

First-- feds say over 500 people get killed on the tracks every year. They don't say much more, like if it's at crossings, the dear departed were drunk or suicidal, pushed, etc. but a lot of people are hurt by trains.

Second-- North Jersey. Com looked pat the intersection and talked to neighbors. That crossing has wierd signals and the barriers kind of bounce up and down depending on which way the trains are going. The gap between the auto and pedestrian barriers is about 10 feet, so it's easy to sneak past.

Third-- There were noise complaints from the neighbors so commuter trains up there don't normally blow their horns at crossings or stations. And there are two tracks to cross.

Fourth-- he's an experienced rider who lives nearby, so he's well aware of the problems. We have no idea yet whether he was wearing headphones, drinking, slipped, or just thought it was safe, but we'll find out.

Conspiracy theories are lots of fun, but it sure looks like just really bad luck.
