Mayor Emanuel announces free fare card pilot program for select 5 CPS schools

"CTA is proud to continue to partner with community leaders and the Chicago Public Schools to help children access the full education they need to excel," said CTA President Forrest Claypool. "For many families and students the school day starts not when the bell rings, but when our bus and train doors open. This pilot program will make it even easier for students to get to and from school so they can spend more time in the classroom.”

This pilot program grew out of an idea presented to the Mayor by the Mikva Challenge Mayoral Youth Commission, a group of 25 Chicago high school and college students who meet with the Mayor on a regular basis to present new ideas and provide the Mayor with a youth-oriented perspective of the challenges facing the city.

The entire cost of the pilot program is being funded by Chicago-area philanthropist Wendy Abrams. This pilot program represents an investment of $50,000,

i got the president's autograph!!!!!

ok, well, i don't have it in my possession. but we do know where it is, which we haven't since aug 12.
i wanted to get michelle obama's gardening book signed when she was here several weeks ago. i coughed up for the vip tickets for her fundraiser, but was shot down on the signing thing. so when i got the tickets for the pres' birthday fundraiser, i started working it as soon as i bought the tickets. i will just say here that most of my obsession with this has to do with support for my microfarm. i have a fantasy of waving my autographed book at the handful of assholes that are giving me a hard time. i doubt i ever will, but no matter how much bs i get, i know i have a copy of the first lady's book behind me.
so. these were gen44 events. i am pretty far past gen44, but have gone to several of their events. although i stick out like a sore thumb, they are intimate events with a good chance for a handshake or celebrity sighting. i'm gonna give them the money, it's nice to get a little fun for it.
anyway, after failing the first time, i doubled down, smuggled the book in, and when the guy that sold me the ticket told me there was nothing he could do to help me, i stuck out my elbows and got on that rope line. as the ss came along, they barked at people to show their hands. when i raised mine, full of book, they told me to put it down. but, but, he was right there!! so, when he got there, i stuck that puppy up out there. he told me to give it to another guy, and he would sign it in back.
when i caught my breath, i realized i had no idea where the book was going. my friend that sold me the tickets started emailing immediately and now he has tracked it down.
i get to go pick it up tomorrow.
did i say woohoo?
