mopinko's JournalTim's 2023 Music Year in Review Maybe America doesn't have a problem after all.
i dont know about yall, but i adore tim miller. after becoming a fan when he appeared on deadline wh, im so happy to see more and more of him.
this essay is just delightful. i dont recognize, like, any of the music on his list. but ill b checking it out.
pls enjoy.
But I gotta tell you, as I walked up to the Superdome to see Bey a few months back flanked by an exuberant, beautiful, crowd it didnt feel like we were on the cusp of societal collapse. The crowd was overwhelmingly black and brown and multigenerational, a mix of family outings and girls nights out. Then there were my fellow gays and theys dolled up in glittery silver. And the Metairie Moms who schlepped in from the burbs. It made it feel as if things here in America were far from dark. That they were some kind of flawless.
The only divide I noticed that night was over which songs to shake ones ass to. And even that was kinda the cool part. Me and my mans were there for the Renaissance disco and the BDay throwbacks. Metairie Mom joined us for the radio singalongs. But every now and then Bey would drop some deep-cut slow-jam that I didnt know. And right when I figured it was time to take a pee break the black ladies around me started losing their shit bringing me into their moment.
Okay, okay, I get it. I know what you are thinking.

well, this is my most popular xit so far, so i thought i'd share it here-
https://twitter.com/mopinkodu/status/1740038255003988168worth clicking through for mr spocks full thread.
comes as no surprise to us here, but in case u think everyone left there is a nazi
well, i'll give dean phillips this-
ive made a ton of new friends in the xitter commenting on his insane threads.
its such a target rich environment. a magnet for the remaining good in that hellscape.
nonetheless, he can bug out at any time.
do u have an itchy dog?
so, any of my peeps that have dogs w allergies- theres a good treatment out there.
cytopoint is a shot that gives 4-8 wks relief from allergies.
i had biff at the vet yesterday cuz hes been licking his feet to the point of damage. hes always had skin troubles, and itchy feet. hes got a yeast infection going on cuz of it. ive been treating those feet for a couple weeks w neosporin and a cone. which he is a super good sport about. but it was only helping a little.
well, he got that shot yesterday, and he hasnt licked once. already the inflammation is way down.
his allergies r seasonal, mostly. probably a few shots a yr wd keep him healthy and happy.
he also got a once a mo arthritis treatment. hes 12, and i was worried that he was licking his carpal joints- his wrists. xrays showed some degradation, but not horrible. i know his hips suck, tho.
it was a spendy visit, w a bunch of issues including needing a good pedicure cuz he was objecting to me screwing w his feet.
but w all my doggy issues these days, this was a great relief.
cross posting from movies- he went that way.
based on the true story of a chgo friend of mines dad. and his brother, spanky the ice skating chimp.

He Went That Way Official Trailer (HD) Vertical
a fb friend of mine was a consultant on this movie. its about his dad, and spanky the chimp from the ice capades. yes, his brother was a monkey. hes a super funny guy and a master of improv.
i cant wait to see it.
"Worship" - Jon Batiste (LIVE on The Late Show)
havent had a chance to watch the netflix show, but its next up in the queue.
so good to see him.
my suspicions finally confirmed- 'post birth abortion' is neonatal hospice.
https://twitter.com/highbrow_nobrow/status/1736453274927006177so, jake asks dumbass about this, he dodges, then gets a clarification after-
hes talking about babies that survive an abortion, but do not get lifesaving care
hes talking about doomed babies. moms who were told their fetuses issues were incompatible w life
they arent aborted, theyre delivered. often w extra pain/work for mom, so they can have those few moments to hold their live baby.
this has been grinding at me for a long time, and finally they said it out loud.
besides being a firm advocate for hospice, and a former hospice volunteer, a couple ppl close to me do this work.
a clay person friend of mine went through this, and was so overwhelmed by what hospice gave them, that he went back to school to become a nurse so he cd do it.
my sister is a pro photographer who works w now i lay me down to sleep, volunteer photogs who take pictures of these babies, usually after they die. or any baby death.
for them to take work that requires more heart than the whole damn gop put together, turn it into something sinister, and use it against us all, i just cant anymore.
so, is this a new thing? jesus was a palestinian.
saw this on xitter this morning. this is a new 1 on me.
now, i guess its accurate, in that by then the romans had adopted an anti-jewish slur to apply to the area where he lived. but thats as close as palestine has been to being an actual country. someone correct me if im wrong there.
but 1st and foremost, he was a jew, in the romans eyes, the king of the jews.
it was a post by someone i follow in ireland. i have just scrolled on by most of the comments coming out of ireland, cuz i get the parallels ppl see.
but damn, thats a stretch. ammirite?
ftr- im a devout atheist and could care less about those biblical arguments here, except as historical record.
Starbucks Broke Labor Law, Must Reopen Unionized Chicago Coffee Shop Shuttered Last Year, Federal Labor Officials Say
The complaint, filed by the NLRBs regional director in Seattle on Wednesday, says Starbucks failed to bargain over the effects of shutting down the Edgewater cafe and others in violation of federal labor law. The NLRB also accuses the coffee giant of interfering with employees rights and illegally trying to discourage them from joining a union.
As of last week, NLRB regional offices had issued 120 complaints against the company that include 393 separate unfair labor practice charges. The full national board, administrative law judges and federal judges have found the company violated labor law in dozens of cases, including that Starbucks failed to bargain with the union, surveilled and threatened employees and illegally fired workers.
Hobson and Knudstorp added in their letter that while Starbucks has had no intention to deviate from the principles of freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining, there are things the Company can, and should, do to improve its stated commitments and its adherence to these important principles.
the store mentioned has already re-opened as a union independent coffee shop. i dont know how well that store did, but its a GREAT location for a coffee joint. right by an el stop, and a very bougie hood.
guessin the new place is doing even better than that charred stuff.
