Any minorities here want to talk about instances of racism? This thread is for you to get it off you

chest if you like. I just watched this video I link to below and it got me thinking there are probably hundreds of these stories just from DU folks. I would also like to hear how this made you feel inside. Talk about the pain, or anything you feel a need to talk about if you feel like it. Believe me, your fellow DUers are concerned about you and worry:

Does Trump sell a lot of MAGA stuff at his rallies? I am wondering if that is his primary

reason for doing them? He sells those hats for $40 and they probably cost like $2 to make. If he can sell 5,000 of them at each rally then he is pulling in $200,000 just for the hats.

Thoughts?

I somehow missed this from 2018. Put tears in my eyes.

I am probably the only one who missed this but it was so moving I wanted to post it. Store video showed it was his backpack that brushed against her as you can see in the second video where the lady is humiliated when she goes back to the store and they play what happened on the store TV:

If Trump does decide to quit and run home to mommy, who do you think the GOP would pick

at the convention at the last minute? Pence, Nikki Haley? If Trump goes out they still need his cult. Thoughts?

Editing to point out that he would likely finish his term but would say he isn't going to go for a second term.

I know it is unlikely. Just curious what people think.

A National Mask Mandate Could Save The U.S. Economy $1 Trillion, Goldman Sachs Says

Wall Street seems to be getting fed up and nervous about the shitty leadership. They may start telling Republicans to step in line on masks since Trump encourages just the opposit.

TOPLINE As mask-wearing becomes a political flashpoint—despite coronavirus cases spiking to record levels across the country—new research from Goldman Sachs suggests a national mask mandate would slow the growth rate of new coronavirus infections and prevent a 5% GDP loss caused by additional lockdown measures.

KEY FACTS
Goldman’s analysts found that wearing face coverings has a significant impact on coronavirus outcomes, and they suggest that a federal mask mandate would “meaningfully” increase mask usage across the country, especially in states like Florida and Texas, where masks are not currently required.

The researchers estimate that a national mandate would increase the portion of people who wearing masks by 15%, and cut the daily growth of new cases by between 0.6% and 1%.

Reducing the spread of the virus through mask-wearing, the analysts found, could be a substitute for strict lockdown measures that would otherwise shave 5%—or $1 trillion—off the U.S. GDP.

CRUCIAL QUOTE
“If a face mask mandate meaningfully lowers coronavirus infections, it could be valuable not only from a public health perspective but also from an economic perspective because it could substitute for renewed lockdowns that would otherwise hit GDP,” the researchers wrote.

NPR: U.S. Pediatricians Call For In-Person School This Fall

The nation's pediatricians have come out with a strong statement in favor of bringing children back to the classroom this fall wherever and whenever they can do so safely. The American Academy of Pediatrics' guidance "strongly advocates that all policy considerations for the coming school year should start with a goal of having students physically present in school."

The guidance says "schools are fundamental to child and adolescent development and well-being."

The AAP cites "mounting evidence" that transmission of the coronavirus by young children is uncommon, partly because they are less likely to contract it in the first place.

On the other hand, the AAP argues that based on the nation's experience this spring, remote learning is likely to result in severe learning loss and increased social isolation. Social isolation, in turn, can breed serious social, emotional and health issues: "child and adolescent physical or sexual abuse, substance use, depression, and suicidal ideation." Furthermore, these impacts will be visited more severely on Black and brown children, as well as low-income children and those with learning disabilities.

Ex-Bush aide lays blame for new coronavirus spike: 'This is Trump's plague now'

Trump's Plague has a nice ring to it.

LEE MORAN
Jun 30th 2020 8:43AM
The blame for the second spike of the coronavirus that the United States is currently enduring can be squarely laid on President Donald Trump, said an ex-speechwriter for former President George W. Bush.

“The first coronavirus spike, in late April, can be blamed on President Donald Trump’s negligence. The second spike, in June, is his own doing,” David Frum argued Monday in a new column for The Atlantic, where he now works as a senior editor.

“This is Trump’s plague now,” he added.

Frum noted how the earlier sacrifices made by people mandated to stay-at-home for weeks had now been thrown away with the premature reopening of the country for the sake of economy, without the proper safety measures in place to combat the spread of the contagion.

What “has happened in the U.S. in June, and what will happen in July, is entirely Trump’s fault,” said Frum.

“This time, though, reality will not be blustered away,” he continued. “Tens of thousands are dead, and millions are out of work, all because Trump could not and would not do the job of disease control—a job that includes setting a positive example to those Americans who trust and follow his leadership.”

CDC says U.S. has 'way too much virus' to control pandemic as cases surge across

HEALTH AND SCIENCE
CDC says U.S. has ‘way too much virus’ to control pandemic as cases surge across country

The coronavirus is spreading too rapidly and too broadly for the U.S. to bring it under control, Dr. Anne Schuchat, principal deputy director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said Monday.

The U.S. has set records for daily new infections in recent days as outbreaks surge mostly across the South and West. The recent spike in new cases has outpaced daily infections in April when the virus rocked Washington state and the northeast, and when public officials thought the outbreak was hitting its peak in the U.S.

“We’re not in the situation of New Zealand or Singapore or Korea where a new case is rapidly identified and all the contacts are traced and people are isolated who are sick and people who are exposed are quarantined and they can keep things under control,” she said in an interview with The Journal of the American Medical Association’s Dr. Howard Bauchner. “We have way too much virus across the country for that right now, so it’s very discouraging.”
