VP Biden On Jeep Ad: ‘Have They No Shame?’

Vice President Joe Biden went after Mitt Romney's controversial Jeep ad on the stump in Youngstown, Ohio Monday.

"Have they no shame?" Biden said. "Romney will say anything, absolutely anything to win it seems."

Biden said of the ad that it's "absolutely, patently false" and that he's "never seen anything like that."

President Obama will air response to Romney’s controversial Jeep ad

Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt told reporters the campaign will soon have an ad on the air in Ohio responding to a new controversial spot by Mitt Romney that highlights Chrysler contemplating building Jeeps in China.

The Romney ad has been widely criticized for leaving the impression that Chrysler is moving jobs from its Toledo, Ohio Jeep plant overseas. In fact, Chrysler has indicated it is considering opening a new Chinese plant to build trucks for the Chinese market but has no plans to move Ohio jobs to China.

The ad appeared to be an effort to blunt Obama’s advantage on the auto bailout issue in Ohio, where 1 in 8 jobs is connected with the car industry.

But the Obama campaign has sensed an opening in the blowback to the ad, a chance to argue that Romney is willing to stretch the truth to win votes.

“We will have a response spot up shortly,” OFA press secretary Ben LaBolt told reporters on Monday. “I think Ohioans will recognize when something reeks of desperation.”

In a separate call, campaign manager Jim Messina called it one of the “most misleading, hypocritical, and indefensible ads we’ve ever seen in a presidential race.”

(snip)
UAW director Ken Lortz told reporters in the OFA call that Romney was using “using the Jeep workers in Toledo as pawns to falsely politicize this issue.”

“I have talked directly to Chrysler about what’s going on and they’ve said they have absolutely no intention of shifting any production from Toledo to China,” he said.

President Obama's secret weapon: Latinos - and new poll shows them fired up

Everyone agrees the importance of the Latino vote in this year’s close election all boils down to one thing: turnout. While the conventional wisdom has been that Latinos are not as enthusiastic about the election as in 2008, this is not what a new impreMedia-Latino Decisions tracking poll has found.

“It looks like the “Sleeping Giant” has woken up,” stated Monica Lozano, CEO of impreMedia. “The poll shows that this year we can anticipate record participation among Latino voters.”

The new poll finds 87 percent of Hispanics say they are almost certain they will vote, including 8 percent of Latinos who have already cast their ballots through early voting. ”Eight percent of Latinos is about a million voters, that’s a pretty big deal,” says Gabriel Sanchez, a University of New Mexico political scientist.

What is more, the poll finds voter enthusiasm is going up – 45 percent of Hispanics say they are more enthusiastic about voting in this election than in 2008, and this number has increased in the last ten weeks, when the number was 37 percent. In 2008, 84 percent of registered Latinos voted, according to the Census.

http://www.politico.com/politico44/
President Barack Obama said Monday at the White House that he has been in contact with the governors and local authorities in all the states expected to be affected by Hurricane Sandy, and expressed confidence in the readiness to respond to the storm.

"Please listen to what your state and local officials are saying. when they tell you to evacuate, you need to evacuate," Obama said. "Do not delay, don't pause, don't question the instructions that are being given, because this is a serious storm and could potentially have fatal consequences if people haven't acted."

Obama said he was not concerned about the effect on the election.

"This is going to take a long time to clean up. The good news is that we will clean up and we will get through this," Obama said.

Bill Clinton: Romney Is Running To Steal Credit For Obama’s Recovery

Source: TPM

Former President Bill Clinton told an Orlando, Fla., audience that Mitt Romney’s vague economic plan is part of a scheme to get elected, then steal credit for a President Obama’s coming recovery.

Clinton cited recent reports that top economists and financial firms are predicting a strong boost to growth soon, likely matching Romney’s current pledge to create 12 million jobs over the next four years, whether or not he’s elected.

According to Clinton, America is looking at 4 percent GDP growth soon, double the current rate, as long as “we don’t mess it up.” The danger then is that Romney will win the election then “cut taxes for wealthy people,” “gut the Medicaid program,” slash aid to education and scientific research, then claim these policies as the reason an already inevitable short term bump occurred in his first term.

Despite the brief gains, Romney will “take the future out” of the budget, Clinton said, undoing Obama’s hard-fought efforts to put the country on a path to more solid gains. That means the president’s work navigating the country through the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression will be forgotten: “Obama won’t even get the credit, because Romney wants to get credit for the 12 million jobs that Obama laid the foundation for.”

Dem Group Debuts “Romnopoly” In OH TV Ad

http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/dem-group-debuts-romnopoly-in-oh-tv-ad

President Obama has already turned Mitt Romney's name into "Romnesia." Now a Democratic super PAC hopes to turn it into "Romnopoly." American Bridge is going on air in the Toledo, Ohio market with a minute-long TV ad that wraps together several previous ad campaigns by Obama allies -- and a year full of attack messaging against Romney -- into one spot.

An official with American Bridge told TPM $111,000 is being spent to run the ad on TV in the Toledo market, with an additional $50,000 going to a statewide online buy.

Obama Campaign Dismisses Talk Of Mitt Romney Momentum In Wisconsin

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/28/obama-mitt-romney-wisconsin_n_2036171.html?1351478394

(snip)
In a memo sent out to reporters on Sunday night, Obama's Wisconsin state director, Tripp Wellde, accused the Romney team of "desperately spinning a narrative of 'momentum' without offering any facts or specifics to back up their claim."

"Now, the Romney-Ryan campaign is telling you they are poised to win Wisconsin -- but don’t, won’t, and can’t point to anything to back up their assertion," Wellde wrote. "The reality is straightforward. The makeup of this year’s electorate in Wisconsin, the turnout machine built by OFA over the last 500 plus days, and the President’s consistent lead in public polling gives the President a clear advantage in the final days of this contest."

More voters are expected to turn out for the November election than showed up for the contentious June recalls. Approximately 500,000 people who voted in the 2008 presidential contest didn't vote in the recalls, and according to Politico, political strategists believe those individuals are likely Obama supporters.

"These voters are younger, more diverse, and less affluent than the electorate as a whole -- and based on all available data are significantly more Democratic than Republican due to the President’s leadership on issues ranging from 'middle class first' economic measures to national security and equality," Wellde arguged in his memo. "As these voters turn out, which data from absentee and early in person voting suggests is already well underway, the electorate becomes increasingly tougher for Mr. Romney."

PPP:Our full Florida poll, which finds Barack Obama leading Mitt Romney 49-48, is now posted

1 point race in Florida

PPP's newest Florida poll finds Barack Obama leading Mitt Romney 49/48, flipping the numbers from each of our last two polls of the state which found Romney leading by a point. Every poll PPP has conducted in the state since the first Presidential debate has found a one point race.

Obama's leading in Florida based on his strength with women (54/45), African Americans (89/10), and voters under 30 (55/39). Romney is strong with men (53/43), whites (57/39), and seniors (53/46). Romney also has narrow advantages with Hispanics (54/46) and independents (50/43).

Floridians actually trust Romney over Obama to deal both with the economy (50/46) and foreign policy (49/48) so something else is driving Obama's razor thin lead in the state. When asked to consider who won the debates as a whole voters pick Romney by a 47/46 margin, indicating that Obama's wins in the last two debates mostly made up for his overwhelming loss in the first one.

In Florida's Senate race incumbent Bill Nelson looks to have a pretty commanding lead heading into the final week of the campaign, 50/42 over Republican foe Connie Mack IV. Nelson's approval rating is on positive ground for the first time in quite a while at 44/41. Mack continues to be quite an unpopular candidate with only 36% of voters rating him favorably to 46% with a negative one. Nelson is winning independent voters 51/36 even as Obama is simultaneously losing them, and he's also taking 17% of the Republican vote.

Cutter: Des Moines Register endorsement not based 'at all in reality '

Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter on Sunday dismissed the Des Moines Register endorsement of GOP candidate Mitt Romney, saying it was not “based at all in reality.”

“They endorsed Mitt Romney in the primary, so this was not much of a surprise,” said Cutter on ABC’s “This Week” of the influential swing-state paper’s backing for President Obama’s challenger.

“It was a little surprising to read that editorial, because it didn't seem to be based at all in reality, not just in the president's record, but in Mitt Romney's record,” Cutter added. “It says that he'd reach across the aisle, which he'd do the exact opposite. It's the exact opposite of what he did in Massachusetts.”

(snip)
“Over the course of running for president over this last six years, he's never once stood up to the far extreme right wing,” she said, citing the controversy over Indiana GOP Senate candidate Richard Mourdock’s recent comments on abortion and rape. “Just this past week we saw it, when he wouldn't take down his ad for Richard Mourdock, who had -- you know, it's a now famous comment that it's God's will if a woman gets pregnant through rape. He's not willing to stand up when it matters.”
