I got it several times on my FB newsfeed yesterday- as if it was the most important story out there. Apparently, it's way more important than the real scandals going on out there (ie poverty, lack of health insurance, police brutality, torture)

She may not turn any red states blue

but (likely) not for those reasons IMHO

I may be confused

but I thought that the Police Union wanted DeBlasio to encourage a "cooling off" period and a respite in the protests, which he did (but probably shouldn't have IMHO) but now a bunch of Police Officers turn their backs on him- at a funeral for fallen officers no less? *ugh*


They are treating DeBlasio as though he pulled the trigger. It's disgusting what is going on among the Police Unions and some of the force.

I still don't really understand what the "Tea Party" is to be honest

Prior to President Obama's election, they didn't exist and I'm not sure that their sudden appearance was entirely coincidental. I'm struggling to figure out what a left-wing "Tea Party" would even look like (though I imagine they'd be more intelligent and ideologically coherent than the current right-wing "Tea Party&quot . The Republican Tea Party seems to exist solely as a reaction to President Obama's election and to keep the Republican "base" perpetually energized against President Obama and Democrats (which has worked well for them in the last two midterms). For instance, they claimed to be horrified at the TARP bailouts at the end of Bush's (P)residency and at Wall Street yet they support candidates and policies that actually roll back new financial protections and restrictions on Wall Street.

He's refused to gut/repeal PPACA

It's not the most "progressive" program out there but it's a step forward from what we had and he's not giving up on it. If he had a Congress willing to work with him on it, I have no doubt that he would want to make it better and take it further. I see President Obama as being a pragmatic person more than an ideological one and not a very "line in the sand" person. That being said, he has also had to work with Republicans since 2011, so some concessions have had to be offered/made just to keep the lights on. It will be even worse the next two years since we lost the Senate but I'm just glad that he's still in office and can veto and/or moderate whatever junk Congress sends to him.

So........what's next for them?

Benghazi has been a bust for them and now this too isn't bearing any "fruit" (but they're keeping it going for 2016 in the event that Hillary jumps in the race, which she probably will). I'd like to think that they've wrung all of the juice out of demonizing PPACA but there will doubtless be more repeal votes in the new Congress even though the numbers clearly show that PPACA is helping, not hurting, people and, at any rate, it hasn't brought on the apocalypse they were fervently warning us about. Some wingnuts are freaking out about Cuba but Republicans don't seem to be quite so unified on it, so that's probably a bust for them. Guiliani tried to partially pin the deaths of the police officers in NY on President Obama but so far Republicans aren't really taking the bait on that either and President Obama didn't even say anything offensive/controversial about it so, I ask again, what's next for them? I mean, I'm sure that they'll find something. Any predictions?

But I do believe that they loudly objected to an NPR doc or story (maybe it was Frontline) and I guess they had some leverage w/NPR to get it pulled.
