How a 'Hamilton' song helped Amanda Gorman overcome a speech impediment

This young lady is amazing. She was/is a stutter and overcame her speech impediment with the help of Hamilton
https://twitter.com/CNN/status/1352284905871388673

You wouldn't know it from her commanding delivery at the inauguration, but up until a few years ago, National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman struggled to overcome speech impediment.

For much of her life, including when she was still an undergraduate at Harvard, Gorman had trouble pronouncing the letter "R."
To practice saying the letter, she'd listen on repeat to one song she said was "packed with 'R's'" -- "Aaron Burr, Sir" from Lin-Manuel Miranda's historical opus, "Hamilton."

"I would try to keep up with Leslie Odom Jr. (who played Burr in the original Broadway cast) as he's, you know, doing this amazing rap," Gorman told CNN's Anderson Cooper on Wednesday, following her triumphant inaugural performance. "I would say, if I can train myself to do this song, then I can train myself to say this letter."

In four years, President Trump made 30,573 false or misleading claims

Thank you Washington Post for keeping track of these lies https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/trump-claims-database/

Most repeated claims

“We also built the greatest economy in the history of the world…Powered by these policies, we built the greatest economy in the history of the world.”

FACT CHECK:
This is Trump’s favorite false claim, so there should be no surprise he said it twice in his farewell address. (In this database, we only count a falsehood once per venue.) By just about any key measure in the modern era, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lyndon B. Johnson and Bill Clinton presided over stronger economic growth than Trump. The gross domestic product grew at an annual rate of 2.3 percent in 2019, slipping from 2.9 percent in 2018 and 2.4 percent in 2017. But in 1997, 1998 and 1999, GDP grew 4.5 percent, 4.5 percent and 4.7 percent, respectively. Yet even that period paled in comparison with the postwar boom in the 1950s or the 1960s. Growth between 1962 and 1966 ranged from 4.4 percent to 6.6 percent. In 1950 and 1951, it was 8.7 percent and 8 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate reached a low of 3.5 percent under Trump, but it dipped as low as 2.5 percent in 1953. (After the novel coronavirus tanked the economy, Trump jacked up his claim even more, falsely saying it had been the greatest economy in the history of the world.) This marks the 493rd time that Trump used a variation of this line, meaning he said it on average every other day.

Amanda Gorman is/was a stutter

I used to stutter. This is a very personal issue for me. I met Joe Biden at two fundraisers in 2019 (pre covid) and at one fundraiser, we discussed stuttering. I got a Biden hug and Joe told me about the 20+ young people with stutters he keeps in contact with. I loved Amanda Gorman's poem and I just found out that she is or was a stutter (the stutter never goes away entirely).

Joe Biden was not the only one at this inauguration to understand how hard-won delivering one’s own words can be. Amanda Gorman, the poet laureate who cracked the inauguration ceremony into a million pieces with her poem, was also a child who overcame a speech impediment, by writing poems. Speaking to NPR about her own stutter, she mentioned one of her predecessors, Maya Angelou, who also delivered an inaugural poem and was mute as a child. “I think there is a real history of orators who have had to struggle, a type of imposed voicelessness, you know, having that stage at inauguration,” she said. “So it’s really special for me.” Gorman’s voice was perhaps the most poignant symbol for millions and millions of Americans who have been struggling to speak truth in the face of years of dark, pixelated nonsense.

The Chinese Government Has Sanctioned Mike Pompeo

This makes me smile
https://twitter.com/politicususa/status/1351960578680446976

The Chinese government has sanctioned former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo over “crazy actions that have gravely interfered in China’s internal affairs,” according to a foreign ministry spokesman.

“These individuals and their immediate family members are prohibited from entering the mainland of China, Hong Kong and Macao. They and companies and institutions associated with them are also restricted from doing business with China,” the ministry said in a statement.

The move comes after Pompeo declared that China is committing “ongoing genocide” against its Uyghur population, the majority of which resides in China’s Xinjiang province.

“I have determined that the PRC [People’s Republic of China], under the direction and control of the CCP [Chinese Communist Party], has committed genocide against the predominantly Muslim Uyghurs and other ethnic and religious minority groups in Xinjiang,” Pompeo said. “I believe this genocide is ongoing, and that we are witnessing the systematic attempt to destroy Uyghurs by the Chinese party-state.”

QAnon believers grapple with doubt, spin new theories as Trump era ends: 'We all got played'

Only complete idiots would buy this crap. These idiots deserve to be laughed at
https://twitter.com/washingtonpost/status/1351958173649874945

Followers of the extremist ideology QAnon saw their hopes once again dashed Wednesday as President Trump left Washington on the final day of his presidency, without any of the climactic scenes of violence and salvation that the sprawling set of conspiracy theories had preached for years would come.

As Trump boarded Air Force One for his last presidential flight to Florida, many QAnon adherents — some of whom had earlier this month stormed the Capitol in a siege that left at least two QAnon devotees dead and others in jail — began to wonder whether they’d been duped all along.

When one QAnon channel on the chat app Telegram posted a new theory that suggested Biden himself was “part of the plan,” a number of followers shifted into open rebellion: “This will never happen”; “Just stfu already!” “It’s over. It is sadly, sadly over.” “What a fraud!”.....

“It simply doesn’t make sense that we all got played,” one QAnon channel on Telegram said.
