A few noteworthy things:

There is no street level view of the area anywhere near the wall.

There is a miles long fenced-in elevated bridge that takes you across from the river crossing to the US Customs port of entry.

Near the port of entry there's a barren no-mans land with nothing but grass and ending at a wall.

The river meanders back-and-forth and you can see places where the river used to be but has now changed course.

Any kind of border wall is necessarily far away from where the river flows to account for the natural shift in the river.

There's arable land between the river and the border wall. So there's US land outside the wall.

The point is that even this small piece of border wall is an expensive monstrosity that only marginally serves it's purpose.

Someone created GoFundMe to 'buy ladders' to counter fundraiser created to pay for Trump's wall

On Wednesday night, after coming across the news of a viral GoFundMe campaign that is raising $5 billion to pay for a border wall, the Twitter account @HoarseWisperer made a joke:

A cold front came through yesterday

Temps started falling to the low 50's (yea, I know. Deep South Texas. What can I tell you).

The breeze started coming from the northeast, bringing with it aromas from far, far away.

A little bit of smokiness, a little bit of mold, humidity, salt air...

Then traces of pine needles, rosemary, and other aromas that were more felt than detected.

Winter is coming to the lower Rio Grande Valley.

The skies are gray, surly, and spitting rain.

More sullen than vengeful.

A hazy shade of Winter.
