hedgehog's JournalI hope someone in this group can give some special advice -
I have a son, recent graduate, computer science engineer, who is looking for work. You know the joke, about how you can tell an extroverted engineer because he stares at your shoes? Well, he's pretty much of an introvert. He also is such a good fit for coding that he has no comprehension that most people can't even understand what he does, let alone do it.
I've practiced some job interview type questions with him, and he tends to stop and ponder the question. So - what advice for getting him to speak up in job interviews?
What is the best web site to get a good analysis of the daily weather?
(I'm sure someone has already answered this, so I apologize for asking. )
I'm looking for something that might explain which fronts are moving where and why, and also track the jet stream.
The real question re the Zimmerman Trial -
if that's what goes on in Florida with the whole world watching, what happens when we aren't watching?
I need the title of a recent movie - it concerns an advertising executive
who one day realizes that the signage around him is actually attacking the minds of consumers. I recall images from the trailers of tendrils from the signs swooping down on people's brains.
Well, damn! I just found out that my property was
re-zoned from agricultural to residential back in 2007! Fortunately, we're grandfathered in , but I didn't realize this had happened. There was a huge kerfluffle around then, and I thought the attempt to rezone had been put down. Apparently, someone very quietly pushed this through.
Former ALEC supporters such as Kraft, Pepsi, Johnson & Johnson
donated the money to push through stand your ground laws. They've withdrawn from ALEC, but is that enough? Is there a way to pressure the corporate sponsors to lobby against stand your ground?

Kirsten Gillibrand's proposal to change how the military addresses sexual assault:

I listened to a discussion on Diane Rehm 7/17 in which an Army representative outlined that the military opposes this because it would effect field operations. I don't recall the exact wording, but proponents consider sexual assault in the military a crime, while opponents consider it a disciplinary problem.
I'm wondering if the real concern among commanders is that a focus on sexual assault within the military may pull back the covers on sexual assault of civilian populations by the military. I have no idea how much a problem this may be, but two books I read recently (Kill Anything That Moves: The Real American War in Vietnam by Nick Turse and The Bitter Road to Freedom: A New History of the Liberation of Europe by William I. Hitchcock) document that not all our soldiers are nature's gentlemen.
Dementia Rate Is Found to Drop Sharply, as Forecast

I didn't realize how much mild chronic joint pain I was having until i stopped the motrin!
Advice for female freshmen college students:
I had an e-mail from an organization that brought up this subject, so I thought now would be a good time to touch on a delicate topic.
Women have a right to be out in public, wearing what they want, drinking what they want. That said, many, many young women become victims of predators during their first semester away at college. The problem is that situations that should be safe are often very unsafe.
So - don't go to a drinking party alone, with strangers or the "nice boy" you met at orientation. Go with someone you trust to watch your back.
Watch your drink and watch how much you drink. Drinks have been spiked, but the original date rape drug is still alcohol.
If you are assaulted in any way, call the Police. Many colleges and universities want to protect their reputation more than they want justice for you.
Advice for male college students: No means no. Unless the person is both sober enough to drive and conscious, hands off. Stop drinking before you lose your judgment skills. Don't do anything as a member of a group that you wouldn't be happy explaining to your parents or siblings. Remember that being charged with a rape isn't worth it.
