hedgehog's Journalchicken question -
I had a feed bin on its side, and it became the favorite spot for my hens to lay eggs. I'm going to get some 5 gallon pails to set up as nesting boxes. My question is whether anyone has any opinions on round buckets v square buckets for this purpose? White, black, yellow, green, red or blue?
Romney could have taken any of the profits from closing down a plant
and re-invested it in a new plant in that town!
Question about college students:
My sister is on my case because she found out that the college daughter tends to stay up until 3AM on the computer, then sleep until noon. My sister think she should be getting up at 7AM at the latest.
So my question is; absent something like an 8AM class, do college students tend to go nocturnal?
This is what happens when you stay away from 24 hour tv news:
Someone at book club made a comparison to Batman, and I thought she was talking about the movie, not the massacre!
I'm not really out of it, but I tend to take the long view (global climate change, high rate of shootings in our cities every day for example) rather than get caught up in the latest story of the moment.
My car broke down today and 5 minutes later a cop
came along to make sure I was OK, that a tow truck was on the way and to check that I wasn't a hazard to traffic where I was.
He even waited 5 minutes while I was on a borrowed cell phone talking to AAA!
Suppose Romney releases the tax returns - which finding would be the worst outcome for him:
Of these possible scenarios regarding Romney's taxes; which one would enrage the most people?
"Surging Catholic Support for Gay Marriage, Gay Adoption (US)"
"What is new in this poll, is its focus on the impact of President Obamas declared support last May for the principle of marriage equality. Overall, Pew reports that there has been very little change in support since before the announcement but that it has strengthened support in his Democratic base, and hardened opposition among his Republican opponents. This shift among Democratic voters (especially liberal Democrats) could have a beneficial impact on the gay marriage ballots this November in the Democratic and Democratic leaning states of Maine, Maryland, Washington and Minnesota, and has been widely reported on in the major news media (see for instance, Huffington Post, SF Gate at the San Francisco Chronicle, or Seattle Post PI).
First, note that Catholic overwhelmingly support gay marriage, by 58% to 33% a margin of 25%, and identical for both White and Hispanic Catholic groups. This degree of support is greater than that shown by any other Christian grouping (Jews and other faiths are not identified), it is substantially higher than that for the population as a whole).
There are two elements to family equality provision for same sex marriage, and for adoption by gay lesbian or trans parents. Pew research demonstrates that just as Catholics are more supportive than other groups of gay marriage, Catholics are more supportive of gay adoption than other Christians, or the population at large. (One notable difference to the pattern for marriage, is a marked divergence between White and Hispanic Catholics).

Romney, Poland and the Unions
"Mitt Romney jetted into Poland Monday, as part of a push to win Polish-American votes in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin and other battleground states. And how does an American presidential candidate do Poland? By posing for photos with Lech Walesa, the former Polish president wholike Ronald Reaganwas once a union leader.
But dont think that the grip-and-grin session with Walesa signaled that Romney, who has run a militantly anti-union campaign (even airing television commercials that promote so-called right-to-work laws and assaults on public employees), is moving toward a more mainstream stance as regards the rights of labor. Walesa long ago abandoned the union movement for politics, and like Reagan hes tended toward the right side of the political spectrum.
So what do the heirs to the Polish labor activism of the 1980s say? What do the hundreds of thousands of activists who maintain the Solidarnosc (Solidarity) union as a major force in todays Poland say?
Solidarnosc is in no way involved in the organization of this meeting nor had the initiative to invite Mitt Romney to Poland, the 700,000-member union announced Monday."

The disadvantage of being a reality based liberal talking to a conservative :
So, I'm with a bunch of high school friends, all very smart women. But some of them are so dumb, they haven't learned a thing in 30 years about real life. One woman is a successful doctor who got through medical school when women students were still an oddity. Yet she remarks about people on food stamps eating steak and shrimp......
Now, I think that she is wildly inaccurate, but do i have actual facts and figures at my fingertips? No. I recalled a few minutes later that the big complaint in my town, where there are a lot of people on food stamps, is that some mother dared to buy her kid a grocery store birthday cake with stamps. Then I started to wonder where, in a typical inner city or rural food dessert, did people find steak and shrimp?
So anyways, between not having the facts, not wanting to cause a fight and feeling that the effort would be like trying to teach a pig to sing, I said nothing.
