About Me

I've been a female working a "man's job" (mechanical engineer), stay at home Mom (6 kids), working Mom (6 kids to put through college), unemployed, underemployed, temporarily employed and now working from home! We live on an old, small farm with 2 dogs and 2 cats in the house, variable number of chickens out in the yard.

Child raising tips not in the books:

Not having a sitter, I always took my young, well behaved kids with me when I went to donate blood. The Red Cross volunteers in my small town were glad to keep an eye on the kids and feed them chopped ham sandwiches and cookies.

The result? Now my kids who are eligible give blood as often as they can.

Why people in retail/food services need paid sick leave:

"Government inspectors cited the company for allowing an employee to work there while ill last week"

The other half of "it's looking a lot like 1933 again"

All through the 30's, people of Jewish descent fought to prove that they, too were first of all Germans or Americans or whatever. Today I see more and more reports of Americans trying to prove that even though they follow Islam, they too, are loyal Americans.

When do we all start wearing a star and crescent?

How is your winter shaping up?

Here in Upstate New York at the east end of Lake Ontario, things are mighty strange. This area is notorious for 200+ inches of snow a year. So far - nothing. It looks line early November out there. Predicting weather more than a few days out is a crap shoot, but one extended forecast shows only a few days below freezing into mid-January! We may get a late season massive snowfall, but it looks like we're due for a record warm winter.

A gift for you all here.

Execution by police officers may have been the only

outcome that didn't risk other lives, but it's too bad that we're left guessing at the motives. It's also possible that we turned these two into martyrs for a cause.

High frequency hearing lost at the movies -

I have trouble with women's voices, background noises and sometimes hard consonants. I do OK at home with hearing aids and closed captioning. Has anyone any experience with actually going to the movies? There are a lot of films I'd like to see without waiting for the DVD to come out.

Christmas dinner for 2 - need suggestions.

That "oh for dumb" moment when you realize that not only

did you forget the code for the 10% discount, but that you gave the wrong expiration date for your credit card.

Some of us shouldn't be allowed near computers when tired, even if it is Cyber Monday!

Any singers here? What's the best way to clear my vocal cords

before singing? I'm not a professional, just part of a church choir. Lately my Sjogren's means I always need to clear my throat before singing, but I don't want to damage my vocal cords. I've thought about using guaifenesin ahead of time, what do you think?
