Major Andrew Cuomo donor caught saying black NY lawmaker is worse than the KKK

Whenever people mention Cuomo as a possible Presidential contender, stuff like this is why NYers respond with some combination of and

http://www.rawstory.com/2017/08/major-andrew-cuomo-donor-caught-saying-black-ny-lawmaker-is-worse-than-the-kkk/

Hedge fund manager Daniel Loeb, who is a major donor to Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and a fierce advocate for charter schools, said this week that a black Democratic New York lawmaker was even worse than the Ku Klux Klan.

The New York Times reports that Loeb this week reacted angrily to a New York Times article in which Democratic New York Senate Minority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins lambasted Cuomo for purportedly prejudging her based on her race and gender.

While posting the article on Facebook, Loeb said that Stewart-Cousins for supposedly paying “fealty to powerful union thugs and bosses” while doing “more damage to people of color than anyone who has ever donned a hood.”

Loeb’s claim that Stewart-Cousins was hurting black children seems to have been based on her past opposition to charter school initiatives.

Maybe Cuomo would choose Betsy DeVos as his running mate.

Looks like we have a quality Dem challenger for Jeff Flake's Arizona Senate Seat

http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/346161-arizona-democrat-eying-a-bid-for-senate

Arizona Democratic Rep. Kyrsten Sinema is eying a Senate bid, according to a new report, in a move that would give Democrats a top recruit in the race to unseat Republican Sen. Jeff Flake

Phoenix's KPNX-TV reports that sources familiar with Sinema's plans have confirmed that she will run against Flake, but the congresswoman has not officially announced any decision.

She's been the subject of rumors surrounding a possible bid throughout the year. Reporters had taken her declaration that she is "running for reelection" to mean that she would seek to remain in the House. But Sinema later clarified that she had been referring to her current status instead of swearing off a jump toward the Senate.

If Sinema ultimately goes through with a bid, she instantly becomes the Democratic favorite in what's likely to be one of the toughest Senate races in the country. Both Sinema and Flake are strong fundraisers — she has more than $3.2 million in her campaign account as of July, while Flake has just under $3 million.

Democrats believe they can topple Flake thanks to both the trends in the state as well as Flake's issues with the GOP base.

She's been a ConservaDem on some issues while in the House, but that will pay off when running statewide in a state like Arizona. She's definitely not a cookie-cutter pol.

Wonkette: Oh go fuck yourself, Glenn Greenwald

https://wonkette.com/621347/oh-go-fuck-yourself-glenn-greenwald

Greenwald, who likes to remind his readers every now and then (constantly) that he really really really really really doesn’t like America, and who is in theory a liberal who embraces liberal values, but totally isn’t, is just not sure whether Donald Trump’s plans to rip healthcare away from millions, deport the fuck out of every brown-skinned person he sees, and so on, are worse than the generals — Mattis, McMaster and Kelly — SUBVERTING TRUMP’S AGENDA by sneakily getting appointed to sweet-ass cabinet and White House positions by Donald Trump, and then sort of trying to rein in some of President Fuck-Bonkers’s most dangerous tendencies.

Oh and he’s mad about the Deep State, because of course he is. Greenwald spends a lot of his column beating a straw man to death, claiming that all the sane people who HAAAAAATE Trump, many of them conservatives who worked tirelessly to keep him from getting elected, and who have been in “COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY, MOTHERFUCKERS” mode since Greenwald’s pals at WikiLeaks and the Russians he is SO IN LOVE WITH (he would deny that accusation, but ya know, actions speak louder than words, and also fuck him) helped Trump get elected, think Greenwald and his weirdo friends are dumb for believing there is a “Deep State.” This is a false construct. We very much know there is a Deep State, and we know it makes Greenwald and Sean Hannity shit the bed, so we make fun of them about it.

But he’s really really confused about which is worse: that Trump is in office and beating the shit out of American institutions and the Constitution, or that the so-called Deep State (normal people refer to them as “career public servants”) is trying its damnedest to protect the Republic from Trump’s damage. The horrors! It reminds us of that thing Anthony Scaramucci whined during his 120-some-odd-hour tenure as White House Communications Director, about how there are some White House staffers who “think it is their job to save America from this president.” It’s almost as if there is a wide consensus among thinking Americans that the traditions we hold dear are in danger, and that we should do something about it. (Also, to all those people, thank you!)

But Greenwald can’t abide that, because how DARE the Deep State Military-CIA-Industrial Complex act all high and mighty like they for real care about protecting America from the authoritarian dipshit in the White House, when it’s very clear that #BothSidesDoIt anyway? How could Donald Trump possibly be more evil than the United States Of America has always been since forever?

The Young Turks are now running hit pieces on Mueller to help Trump

They must be so proud of their work--they got a reTweet from Wikileaks, who then got re-reTweeted by Roger Stone.

The alt-left is little better than the alt-right, and is generally identical from a functional point of view.

Primary voters, not the DNC/DCCC, are responsible for imposing litmus tests on our candidates.

Maybe people have lost track about how elections work in this country, but our Democrstic Congressional candidates are not chosen by by Ben Lujan or Tom Perez or Nancy Pelosi.

They're chosen by Democratic primary voters in their local districts.

The DNC's job, and the DCCC's job,is to help nominees win the general election. That's it. Elect Democrats, not determine which Democrats are better on the issues.

It's the job of primary voters to pick the candidate who most closely reflects their values while providing the best chance to win.

So it's downright silly to expect the DCCC to try to tell primary voters who to choose, or to play favorites amongst primary winners based on ideology or any number of issues instead of helping the most Democratic candidates win.

If people are really bothered by the fact that Democratic primary winners in conservative districts tend to be more conservative, there's an app for that--local activism.

anti-choice Democrats are the reason Nancy Pelosi was House Speaker in 2006 and 2008

Since apparently history started yesterday in some of these debates, let's go all the way back to 2009 when Speaker Nancy Pelosi was shepherding the Affordable Care Act through the House.

A major issue in that was whether abortions could be funded using federal tax credits (btw, single payer and abortion will be an exponentially more explosive situation).

Pelosi brought to the House floor a vote to prohibit the use of federal funds "to pay for any abortion or to cover any part of the costs of any health plan that includes coverage of abortion" except in cases of rape, incest or danger to the life of the mother.

64 Democrats voted for that bill, which was heavily opposed by NARAL, the ACLU and other progressive organizations.

http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2009/roll884.xml

Democrats at the time held 256 seats in the House (ah the good old days).

Subtract 64 from 256 and you get a number much, much smaller than the number needed to control Congress. It's the difference between Nancy Pelosi and Paul Ryan determining spending levels for Medicaid, food stamps, and the EPA. And for any and all bills dealing with abortion, equal pay, birth control, etc.

The difference between Obamacare and Trumpcare. Between funding for Planned Parenthood and defunding Planned Parenthood.

One does not have to be anti-choice to be able to do simple electoral math.

Israel Police Tells Court: Netanyahu Suspected of Bribery and Fraud

Source: Haaretz

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is suspected of bribery, fraud and breach of trust in two cases, Israel Police confirmed on Thursday when it requested a gag order on the ongoing talks to recruit a state witness. The gag order was granted and is effective until September 17.

...

Also on Thursday, Attorney General Avichai Mendelblit said that progress was being made in talks with a former top aide to Netanyahu, Ari Harow, about becoming a state witness.

Speaking during a ceremony at the Supreme Court, Mendelblit said "we're making progress" and that the prosecution was "working with the police" on getting, Netanyahu's former chief of staff, to become state witness. He asked reporters to "let us work in peace and find the truth."

According to recent reports by Haaretz, the information he provided allegedly indicated criminal connections between Harow, the prime minister and people in the prime minister’s circles.

One chart that explains the DCCC's willingness to fund anti-choice Democrats

https://www.voterstudygroup.org/reports/2016-elections/political-divisions-in-2016-and-beyond

Social conservatives/economic conservatives all vote Republican

Social liberals/social conservatives all vote Democratic.

Social liberals/economic conservatives are irrelevant because they barely exist

Social conservatives/economic liberals decide elections.

Yes, it sucks to have to include people with bad views on reproductive choice in the big tent. But, the alternative is to let Republicans govern the country with a free hand.

We must be clear-eyed about the country we actually live in, even while hoping for a country that looks better down the road. It won't look better down the road if we can't win elections.
