Bernie Sanders will foil Senate Republicans' single-payer trolling
Source: Vox
The Washington Examiner reported Wednesday night that Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) is planning to propose an amendment during debate this week to create a single-payer health care system.
Daines doesnt himself support single-payer. But his amendment is an attempt to splinter the Democratic caucus and expose the minority partys divisions on how to reform the health care system. Republicans are struggling mightily to find 50 votes to pass their bill, and the Examiner suggests that Daines is interested in calling attention to Democrats internal discord. In essence, the hope would be to force the many Democrats who are in-cycle in 2018 to choose between going on the record as favoring a pretty hefty tax increase by voting for a Daines-written single-payer bill and attracting the ire of Sanders supporters by voting against it.
....
The tactic of turning Sanders fans often dyspeptic attitude about the Democratic Party establishment to their advantage has worked for Republicans in the past, but Sanders has no intention of letting them run that playbook this week. Rather than seize the opportunity from Daines to talk about Medicare-for-All which would in turn highlight Democrats internal divisions Sanders will reject Daines amendment, a spokesperson for the Senator told Vox.
"The Democratic caucus will not participate in the Republicans' sham process. No amendment will get a vote until we see the final legislation and know what bill we are amending, Josh Miller-Lewis, a spokesperson for Sanders, said in a text.

Bernie is showing real leadership in the health care debate. Not posturing, real action and leadership.
Okay, this story about DWS's IT guy is major league weird, to the point of suspicious.
From FEBRUARY of this year:
http://www.politico.com/story/2017/02/house-staff-criminal-investigation-234714
Imran Awan, a longtime House staffer who worked for more than two dozen Democrats since 2004, is still employed by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, though his access to the House IT network has been blocked since last week.
Five House staffers are accused of stealing equipment from members offices without their knowledge and committing serious, potentially illegal, violations on the House IT network, according to multiple sources briefed on the investigation.
Top staffers for lawmakers impacted by the scam were briefed last Thursday. A source in the briefing said the Sergeant-at-Arms confirmed the U.S. Capitol Police is conducting an active criminal investigation but said no arrests have been made.
Imran Awan was first employed on Capitol Hill by former Rep. Robert Wexler in January 2004 as an information technology director. Awan has worked for at least 25 other House Democrats since that time as a shared employee providing technical support including to previous House Democratic Caucus Chairman Xavier Becerra, currently the California attorney general.
...
Several members who have employed Imran Awan and Alvi in the past confirmed to POLITICO they terminated their employment late last week.
Okay, that's over FIVE MONTHS AGO.
Flash forward to today:
http://www.politico.com/story/2017/07/25/debbie-wasserman-schultz-aide-arrest-240960
A senior House Democratic aide confirmed Awan was still employed by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) as of Tuesday morning. But David Damron, a spokesman for Wasserman Schultz, later said that Awan was fired on Tuesday.
It took the guy being arrested and having his passport taken away due to an attempt to flee the country--FIVE MONTHS AFTER HE HAD BEEN BANNED FROM DOING HIS JOB--to get fired.
So, either there's an extraordinary level of incompetence--once again touching upon an IT-related fiasco--or something else that just begs the fever-swamps of conspiracy theorists to fill in the blanks.
There's no good explanation for why a Congressional office continued to keep on its payroll a suspected criminal ringleader who had been banned from doing his job for that office.
Reminder that Pat McCrory was the only Republican to lose in North Carolina
in major statewide races in 2016. Because of his transbaiting.
North Carolina.
The purported ban on trans people serving in the military is a desperate flail by the dumb, cruel animal occupying the Oval Office to ignite a culture war to distract from his many failing.
Bernie Sanders and his staff are doing heroic work on fighting Trumpcare.
This has flown under the radar, but Bernie is the ranking member on the Senate Budget Committee. That means it's he and his staffers arguing before the Senate Parliamentarian over which provisions of Trumpcare should be ruled ineligible for reconciliation rules. It's an unglamorous, detail-oriented grind involving charts, analysis and number-crunching.
http://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/343737-senate-parliamentarian-more-parts-of-obamacare-repeal-will-need-60-votes
The vote tonight on Trumpcare faced a 60 vote hurdle because Bernie and his team successfully argued for many of its provisions to require 60 votes instead of 51.
Bernie is acting very much like a team player, and a leader, and is doing it away from the cameras and isn't hogging any credit or the spotlight.
Thank you, Bernie!
Boy Scouts of America REFUSES to distance themselves from Trump's vile speech
Trump's speech represents the values of the BSA in 2017.

The sitting U.S. President serves as the BSAs honorary president. It is our long-standing custom to invite the U.S. President to the National Jamboree.
They own this shit now. Just rename that putrid organization the Trump Youth and get it over with.
Very simple explanation for why Schumer and other Dems are distancing themselves from Hillary
She's unpopular, especially for former candidates and presidents.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-07-18/finally-a-poll-trump-will-like-clinton-even-more-unpopular
From the same poll:
Former Vice President Joe Biden is just one percentage point below Obama and at his highest level since the poll started asking about him in December 2009.
It doesn't really matter in the world of politics whether it's fair or unfair that Clinton is unpopular. There's a reason Tr*mp brings her up in his tweets all the time.
At least 20% of those polled have a positive view of Obama but a negative one of Clinton, despite the fact their policies are virtually identical.
So, this Louise Mensch/Claude Taylor etc anti-Trump fake news thing ...
Sadly, the site has not come to a consensus as to whether the people who gave us "secret impeachment proceedings overseen by the Marshal of the Supreme Court" and "Rudy Giuliani begged for a deal at his secret sentencing" claims qualify for per se verboten members of the kookosphere.
So, half the people see fake news headlines and believe them and the other half get annoyed when we click on a plausible headline only to have it be one of the aforementioned b.s. artists. Fights start, etc etc.
For whatever reason, this seems to be a bigger problem when the bad guys hold the White House and leads to some real creepy crawlies gaining traction amongst DU's readership (during the Bush years mods had to delete a ton of links to white nationalist sites who struck an anti-Bush pose).
The jury system is working much better these days than it ever has, but it may be worth your while to weigh in on the obvious fraudsters since the jury system still has blind spots.
